Soul gems fill control

How do I make sure a creature soul trapped fills the smallest gem available? I have some grand gems with common creatures in them when I had all sizes empty.

make sure u have petty empty gems , lots , cos u dont want them going into your grands.. Also it dosnt mater what u put into Azura's Star (hint)

Carry Lesser and Petty to take care of the small ones , or dont trap them.
Only trap bear and above for common and above.

You got some grand soul gem with medium souls in them in a quest, think you can also get it as loot.
Else it should fill up from the smallest it fit in. So an lesser soul go in an lesser gem, not an petty but if your out of petty it goes into normal.
And yes having an trap soul spell, recommend adding some weakness to it over having it on a weapon you use all the time

The sword I make is also ... :) but i put it into my spell on touch now, save the extra for charges. and i get to chose what and who i trap and when :)

If you just don't want to think about it and you're not scared of mods, go get the mod "Smart Souls" over on Oblivion Remastered Nexus (also needs another mod called OBSE64, the script extender). It has an option called "Exact" mode where soul gems will only be filled by the corresponding sized soul. e.g. A petty soul won't go into anything but a petty soul gem even if you have an empty lesser gem right there.

dont forget , you can trap your own summons, (No Humanoid , unless a black gem)
