Multiple Characters
-I run 0 mods, I don't have deluxe upgrade.
- I share the game with my fiance, and we each have a character.

I have tried twice now to make a 2nd character *there's a lot of ways to play* and I just wanted to try out a stealth build, the character being a symbolic representation of my belated cat who recently passed. Even though I thoroughly remember saving multiple times on the 2nd run, the character gets deleted upon coming back to the game at a later time. *Same thing happened on 1st run*

-- The game WILL NOT allow more than 2 characters at this time, Is this intended or a bug? --

It has to be a bug, I have about 7 characters.
Are you using a seperate new save to manually save it? Because you can have dozens if not hundreds of seperate savegames and thus seperate characters

Yes of course, when I hard save I just create a new save I don't quicksave. Very seldom do I, cause the game does it so frequently. Is there a fix? It's outside my understanding. I've never played Oblivion before. I'm a skyrim pleb.

I'm wondering if it's because of his long name? I named the character:
Alik-ir Peddlefoot "BJ"
"BJ" being my belated cat

Hard saving and new save are 2 different things.. To make a New character you actually have to click "new game" at the main menu.
Just hard saving doesn't seperate the saves in to different characters and even if you made a hard save right before leaving the tutorial sewer and click "edit character it still won't be a new character

Using special character in the name like " will cause the savefile to be unrecognized. This is because the savefile gets named after your character name and windows doesn't allow such characters in the filename but the game do. So when to game is looking for a file name containing " in it, it can't find the save file.

Yes even if you select new game all the saves goes into the same list.
So if you want to play two characters you will have to go down the list to find the newest save of that character, Recommend saving in 3rd person so you see the character.

It shouldn't be a problem, you could just make a new character and try it
I had a similar issue where save games were not saving. I'd be playing, save the game... I could then go to the load screen and visually see the save game I just saved... then quit the game and come back later and no save games. The culprit was Windows Defender. I had to white list the Oblivion Remastered folder and it fixed the problem for me.

I have three and allows me to add more.

Since I tried a few presets from Nexusmods, I currently have 9 characters. The game even uses separate autosaves for each character so nothing gets overwritten by a different character.

Only quicksave seems to use just one file for all characters. That's both weird and dumb.
But considering how often the game saves automatically, it's not that big a deal...

However, clicking "Continue" loads always the last save from the last active character. To load a different one, you have to load manually and pick the character you want to play.

To create a NEW character you have to either start a NEW GAME or drop a save file from another source into your Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\SaveGames folder.

If you select load, all saves are separated by character. That's if you did a new game for each one.
UPDATE:
The problem was I was putting special characters in the name of my character during tutorial of a new game. Thanks everybody for the input!
