How does enchanting work??
Okay so title, basically. But I've read online that you can put multiple enchanments on weapons? But I can't figure out how to do it. I've got plenty of grand soul gems (and others) and mastered every school of magic with tons of different spells unlocked (if not all). Anyway point is, I tried to do different gemstones and different enchantments but they don't get added they just replace each other. So I just enchanted the blade with the one enchantment but now won't show up to be enchanted again. So how exactly does it work to enchant something twice? Weapons only I know. But how to do it?

you cant. enchanting only lets you put 1 enchant on gear, you either need to cheat or find / buy gear with multiple enchants.

Multiple enchantments comes in form of consumable items like sigil stones, mods that adds custom enchanting items like in the original game's overhaul ones, tends to have powerful stuff like enhancing damage and applying weakness to stuff.

Also you can only multi buff weapons, armor/shields only has 1 effect.

Yeah ik but how to multi buff weapons? I can't figure it out. How (step by step) do you do it?
1. You cannot enchant an "already enchanted" item. Each gear only gets 1 shot.
2. Only Weapons can get multiple spells - but they all share the power of the single Soul Gem.

Enchanting a mundane item, you slot in a single gem, the final tab, you can stack your spells. But put too many spells on, and your weapon will drain in 2-5 hits.

Ie. on the third tab (Item, Gem, Spells), you can add multiple spells, but the spell-power(sliders) will all draw on the single gem from the second tab.

You click on effect and add it, then go back to the left on the page to try to add another.

Attribute and skill effects can be added multiple times for different ones, but you can't add duplicate effects.

Drain health 100pt 1 second, works well with any weakness to magicka effects if it comes after.

You can also do Soul Drain 1s with a 100pt health drain and use custom spells to multiply it by creating weaknesses on a target, and even do paralyze 1s to stun and give you time to prep the spells on it.

I tried that but all it did was replace the other one I put in. Is there something else to it?

You choose the weapon, then the soulgem. On the third tab you pick the enchantments, and you can only pick those which you could cast with your real skills. Paralyze might be too much for example, since it requires a 50+ skill.
You pick one effect by left clicking it and you finish it with accept. Then you can pick another effect, and so on. You have to finish one effect before you can add another. You can still manipulate them afterwards with leftclicking on the effect, until you actually hit enchant. And don't forget to give it a name or the button stays grey.

Add weaknesses before the real effect. What you put on it depends mostly on your preference. Just adding paralyze to a weapon is pretty much an 'I win' button, but it costs a lot of charge and needs recharging every other battle. Silence is also a nice one to keep those mages from spamming heals and summons, possibly with something to slow them down...some love to run around through the whole dungeon.

okay but here's the problem i'm having. I go into enchant. I pick an enchantment from the left. I have maxed out all schools of magic and learned almost every spell I could find in the game.

Now, I pick the sword. Then I pick the grand soul gem with a grand soul. Then I pick fire damage.

When I try to add another enchantment for the same weapon using a DIFFERENT soul gem. It does NOT get added on. It REPLACES the other one I just put on. There's no other way to explain it. People keep saying just add another one just add another one but what no one is recognizing is that I'M DOING THAT and it's not adding another one, it's just replacing the last one I added. So...what...am...I...doing...wrong?

because you aren't confirming the enchantment and are canceling the first added spell.

when you add the enchantment, there will be a button press you have to do to apply it, on mnk it will just say confirm below the sliders

on controller it will be x for xbox, square for ps.

press that button when you are done setting the enchantment sliders and it will be set for the item and you can then add another enchantment.

ps you don't use multiple gems, all of the added enchantments will be using the same gem and will thus lower the amount of uses a weapon charge will have the higher the magnitude of said spells.

i dont think you use 2 soul gems
I have found that only weapons can get multiple enchantments . Armors get one . Also if you select any Constant effect spells on a weapon you can not add any other spells to it.
The Black Soul Gems with a person's soul in it does not list any differently than a grand creature's soul . When soul taking the blacks fill with a grand creature before the Grand Soul Gems will get filled . I think it chooses Alphabetically . Only people souls should fill the black gems .
