Do not engage the Through a Nightmare, Darkly quest - You will get EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Error!
To get this quest, you gotta talk to Kud-Ei from Bravil Mages Guild. You are given the task to save her friend (who is in the dreamworld). Do not start this quest! if you do... and without a proper save (before starting up the quest), you will be unable to finish the quest due to a persistent EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION CTD error. You'll no longer be able to play the game without returning to a previously saved game.

I've already submitted a ticket in to Bethesda about this problem.

Didn't get it. Finished it without problems.
same here, no bugs, no stucks, nothing.
From the wiki

This quest is not part of the Bravil Recommendation, although both quests come from Kud-Ei and can be acquired simultaneously. This can be confusing, as it is possible to accept both quests simultaneously. It is not recommended though, as it may result in errors, making finishing one of the quests impossible. It is preferable to finish one before starting the other.
Also done that quest without any problems.

I have had some other crashes but mostly it get stuck loading when transitioning to another area, either fast travel or through a door, and I have to kill it.
But not often enough to get me to quit. :D:
i managed to finish this quest too but my game crashes were similar to @BELDUS with my problems being during map transition or teleport not to mention the mods ESP being erased from the PLUGINS txt list ...so i read other posts from community and followed the tips to --- turn off auto saving, turn off dlss, turn off steam cloud synch and then i installed the unofficial patch... so far so good.

I've already completed the Bravil recommendation after accepting the Through a Nightmare, Darkly quest from the NPC. I didn't accept the quests simultaneously, though.

Also, I'm not using any mods or using any kind of cheats whatsoever. I'm running the vanilla version.

My current game breaking bug with this quest is from entering the dreamworld by sleeping in Shivering Isles. I've completed all 4 trials but when I go to talk to him there are no dialogue options, I can practice speechcraft on him but no matter what I try there is just a blank dialogue box when I interact with him. My last save file (why this area overwrote 5 autosave files is beyond me) is 50 HOURS, a week ago...if anyone has any fixes for this I would greatly appreciate it, because as is it sits it looks like I'm going to be taking a very very long break from this game.
A workaround that worked for me was to put all items but the Dreamworld Amulet in a nearby container, then skip the guy's dialogue.

I was getting this "crash" every time I talked to the NPC to complete the Quest to get out of the dream... so what I did different is I noticed I had on several pieces of gear and weapons that they give you in the dream... I removed them and then talked to the NPC, and that let me exit just fine and complete the Quest. Maybe there's some glitch with the gear since you obtained it by other means than how you usually do it and returning "dream gear" into the "real world" just doesn't work...

For some odd reason the youtube video refuses to play for me. But I haven't gotten into that kind of crash. And I had few random crashes in a row.

It's probably related to how the game is supposed to automatically remove everything but the Dreamworld Amulet and then give you back all your stuff.
You should not do that quest unless you are good at hand to hand fighting

There's a chest with a full set of light armor, full set of heavy armor, and one weapon of each type at the start of the one section with combat.
