Any ultimate performance guide step by step?
So, people already have some mods, some tweaks, some settings which is "optimal" for playing this game (if you dont have top notch gear, so you dont really care).

As RTX 3060 enjoyr who have 45-55 fps on lowest detail outside sewers after turorial with DLSS on performance.. is there way to get those extra 10-20 fps so i can play smooth without lag? Any settings, mod, just everything that really works.

rtx 3070 here, i found fsr performs better, + frame gen it feels pretty good now, another tip is dont change settings in game, do it in menu, then reload the game, as good as we'll get till they patch it, hope it helps :)

Not a step by step BY ANY MEANS, but ill paste my notepad anotations here in the spirit of giving you a direction. It really helped ME, im playing on a 3080 and it was stuttering and now i only get small traverse microstutters.

-Download and update D3D12core DLL \OblivionRemastered\Binaries\Win64\D3D12

-Enable REBAR on NVIDIA INSPECTOR

-FRAME GEN MOD

- Enable DLSS 4 via NVIDIA APP

- Engine.ini Tweak mod from nexus

-UPDATE streamline DLLs
PATH FOR THE STREAMLINE DLLS
C:\Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Oblivion Remastered > Engine > Plugins > Marketplace > nvidia > DLSSS > Streamline > Binaries > ThirdParty > Win64.

-INGAME CONSOLE

You should be able to play on a mix of high and medium at 60 with that card. Those low fps are caused by other components.

Yeah i tried FSR frame gen..i got over 90 FPS.. thing is those fps are so fake game still looks like 50 at most. Also if i encounter enemy they drop from 90 to 40 so its kinda useless feature.. + it add so big latency to the game that my mouse cursor literally floating like in water, even with nvidia reflex + boost. So nope, frame gen is big popo.

The usual engine.ini / other "tweaks" are generally placebo you know that right? You might get something out of those when playing on a laptop or a Steamdeck, but on a relatively recent desktop, literally nothing. Those that disable effects etc. are mostly already found in the options.

Some "Tweaks" that disable things like tone mapper / bloom / chromatic aberration etc. are good, because those are usually all crammed under post processing and not all games let you disable chromatic aberration / DOF etc. by default, but in general the "super duper performance mega infinity FPS" mods are usually BS.

Big changes like completely removing/disabling Lumen RT, or dragging certain settings below the minimum might have a substantial impact but again, most are just settings you can edit without any mods. If not from the options, then manually from the .ini files directly

Frame gen works best when your base fps is over 60, the higher your base fps the better the frame gen experience, ideally you would want 100+ fps for the best frame gen experience that way the generated frames are much less noticeable.

Rebar doesn't help and can make it more unstable. Using latest for dlss in nvapp will make it use Transformer model which comes with a performance cost. So loose about 5% fps. I don't mind the fps loss but others may. Framegen mod good idea. Engine tweak mods is throwing the kitchen sink and dog bowl at it. Most do way to much. Find one that does a minimal amount of settings changes. But with a 3060 you may need the whole kitchen sink. /shrug

Now downloading and updating d3d12core.dll hm i've not tried it myself. I know it checks if it's a newer version then what windows is using and will override windows version only if newer. 1.610.4 is fairly old at 6/26/2023 so i'd guess it's using the one in windows. But with windows 11 numbering i've no idea really. I'd highly suggest downloading from a good source. https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/directx12agility/ try the preview build if you want. I went with 1.716.0 and no crashes yet so seems to work fine. Didn't really have stuttering issues except minor transversals here and there. So no idea if it helps. Direct link that MS points to https://www.nuget.org/api/v2/package/Microsoft.Direct3D.D3D12/1.716.0-preview

I like to swap out streamline, dlss and d3d files so don't mid trying it. btw once downloaded change it to .zip and extract. You want the d3d12core.dll file located in microsoft.direct3d.d3d12.1.716.0-preview\build\native\bin\x64 folder.

Not that it helps fps as it doesn't but i do like dlss autoexposure on. But i'm lazy and don't want to enter the console command every time i start the game. So add it to the bottom of your engine.ini file if you want as i do.

Recognise a CPU bottleneck when there is one. All that bios crap and GPU driver stuff is not going to solve this.

And now DLL files on top of a system that has CPU bottleneck. Don't ever download random DLL files into your system it is a major security risk.

This is just useless witchcraft with all these fancy setting changes.

Do the fancy stuff after you post what CPU you have at least. I personally think you should skip those suggestions.

And a 3060 is likely not even supporting Rebar without a Vbios update and is not just a simple click in nvidia inspector....... And is that even going to make a difference on cards with less than let's say 16gb? Yeah it wont be doing 256mb chunks but the bus is slow and the capacity low.

Nvidia drivers might be a disaster lately but 40 FPS with FG is 20 FPS and that aint gonna happen on a 3060 on lowest settings.

Turning down global illumination gave me a quite big boost when most other settings showed only little impact.

Suggestion turn DLSS off and put FSR on you can then also use some framegen. Put everything on ultra and if you still aren't happy with your frame rate turn hardware RT off.

Those are my settings (but I have Hardware RT still on) and I get 60- 80 FPS outside. Looks great too and no noticeable input lag.

With a 3060 12Gb.

I agree as I was using the Ultimate Engine.INI Tweak from Nexus Mod, thinking that it had definitely improved my performance. The reality was that the poor performance was a result of me having updated my NVIDIA graphics drivers and the game failing to recompile the shaders, which it did on my initial load. I deleted the Save_Settings.sav file and this forces the game to regenerate the shaders. After that the game ran great and I have not changed my drivers since (using 576.28).

I deleted the Ultimate Engine.INI Tweak file and let the game rebuild the default one and have not noticed ANY difference in the performance at all despite this custom Engine.INI files containing dozens of entries. If there are any performance improvements then they are either so subtle as to not be noticeable or they only work on specific hardware setups.
Yes I tested that engine.ini from Nexus too just to see what impact it had. For me none or so small it wasn't noticeable. But with just tweaking some in game parameters I'm playing with good frame rates on a 3060.

Yes, those "magic Engine.ini soups" usually do nothing or can even introduce performance issues or gfx glitches... They could also make a game more unstable.

From my experience, testing many undocumented settings for days, the only few ones doing something (minimal impact anyway) are:

[/script/engine.renderersettings] r.RayTracing.Reflections.ExperimentalDeferred=1 r.GTSyncType=1 fx.EarlyScheduleAsync=1
... but as usual, there are many variables (this game has unstable fps drops even on different ever changing weather conditions) so.... it could be a bit of placebo again.
