Oblivion vs Skyrim?
I really loved Bethesda style games, from when I first played Morrowind on xbox.

I love Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, NV came but I was still burned out from FO3, but it's still a great game(I know Oblivion were the devs)

Then Skyrim came out, and I felt like I was the only one who couldn't get into it. It was such an amazing success, and I thought maybe I got bored of the formula and that's why I didn't beat it. I think it took several years from when it came out for me to finally complete Skyrim. I really tried to get into their space game a couple of years ago and didn't like it.

Oblivion isn't perfect, not a fan of the vanilla leveling system. However, with mods and knowing how the game plays, I know how to work around it, and I just find the quests more interesting in Oblivion.

This was peak Bethesda, and this is why they're so loved. They have lost their way, but a visual remaster, it's the same game and it's still very enjoyable to this day. In some ways, I think western rpgs have went backwards.

Even with all the jank and same voice actors, I feel like there was a lot more heart in this game than many RPGs. Even if the dialogue between NPCs do not come across perfect, it helps to do what Oblivion did very well, and that is make you feel you're in a lived in world. Like the world still goes on without you.

I hope Morrowind remaster is next but I am not in a rush. I am glad to be able to enjoy this game with modern graphics.

Also, I found that FSR + frame gen seems to work really well, as opposed to DLSS and frame gen.

I'm on a 4070 TI Super, 78003DX, 32 gb of ram, and the game runs smoothly above 60 fps, but of course, there are many games out there that run better. So I do think that people have a valid complaint about the performance of this remake.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong, I played tonnes of Skyrim, but mainly modded. Oblivion remastered I haven't felt the need for mods at all.

So many features like armour/weapon durability, proper fighters and mages guild, the arena, persuasion mini game, better lockpicking etc. etc. are what makes Oblivion the more immersive and satisfying choice for me. That being said I do agree about the levelling system, even with the remastered tweaks it still felt far too fast and east to get super OP and borderline invincible, even on Expert difficulty (hey, guess I can try Master next)

Only things I do miss from vanilla Skyrim are....

Enchanting as a skill - would like to enchant my gear without having to farm sigil stones

Equipping followers - while I now dont NEED one, I liked having a permanent follower, felt less lonely. If I exploit a quest to get a follower in Oblivion, their armour and weapon breaks after a few fights, but of course I cant re-equip them; so they're stuck un-armed and un-armoured.

House Decoration- I'd forgotten that oblivion book cases, armour and weapon racks, wine racks etc. are not actually 'fillable' via a menu , so I've got tonnes of stuff to display, but can only meticulously balance it on top of surfaces with the grab function. Bought the wine racks and bookshelves for my bravil house, only to realise invisible barriers block you from even using grab to try and balance stuff 'in/on' individual shelves.

The optimisation/performance thing is weird. My rig is roughly half the power of OP's in every sense, yet the game runs perfectly for me. Sure I'm limited (by rig and monitor) to 2k res and 60-75fps, however my framerate is max and completely consistent, no crashes and no major bugs to speak of in 44 hours. I hope it gets a patch for the people that need it, but no complaints from me personally.

Imo the best remaster we've had in ages. Just praying that maybe one day Fallout NV will get the same treatment.

They are both fun; but for new players I think playing the games in reverse order is best.
Oblivion story lines are better, Skyrim has more refined combat which makes it fun 🤩
Both Games have good and bad stuff.
I like Oblivions Landscape, NPCs, and Quests more

But Skyrim has the WAY better dungeons and the better level system for enemies and loot

Both has an interesting leveling system, I Like them both.

The Dragons and Oblivion Gates are cool for the first few hours, but both gets... boring/annoying very fast BUT you can better ignore the Oblivion Gates than the dragons.

While I liked all the major Elder Scrolls games going forward from Arena, I thought Oblivion hit the sweet spot between simplicity and detail. Morrowind was really fun, but it was micromanagement city. Skyrim was too dumbed down for my preferences. I mean, I didn't let that get in the way of enjoying all the games, but if I had to pick the best, it would be Oblivion.
Ofc oblivion wins

Skyrim is like the successful child of the family, Oblivion is the crazy grandpa that lets you ride on his motorcycle and do cool stuff when your parents aren't watching

For me it strikes the right balance between the hardcore RPG of Morrowind and the more actiony RPG of Skyrim. It feels like a piece of craftsmanship: sometime a bit rough on the edges, but there's an undeniable amount of love that was put into it

If there's one thing Skyrim did right is the world and level design, which is something that Bethesda can capitalize on - they did a really spectacular job there, and I do miss the "skyrim door" in dungeons that let you quickly exit and be on your way. Having to backtrack all the way to the entrance of a cave is a pain
skyrim i played for like 60hrs then dropped it. it's such a stripped down version of what an rpg is suppose to be. The way i describe it to ppl becasue they've mostly played the FO series is as follows. Morrowind = F NV Oblivion = FO3 Skyrim = FO4. as far as rpg elements go.

I'm glad your game is running well! =) I do get higher fps in doors. I have my fps maxed to 162, and there are some inside environments I can achieve. But I am focused outside because, I think it takes up more than Cyberpunk. I also use 2k, and I believe I played that game with all bells and whistles, ray tracing, and got a steady 80+.

But hey, if you can get this game running well on specs half of mine, then great. I honestly wish I could play this on steam deck. I tried and didn't like it. I love Oblivion, I love the graphical improvements, I just wish there were a better.. middle area for PCs or steamdecks.

Oblivion all the way, hands down no question.

Some of the ruins and caves have short cuts to the exit doors, but not all of them. I always wondered why they didn't make that a standard feature. That, or give us a warp to the door after we've cleared the dungeon the way most of the Zelda games did. The ones in Link's Awakening and Ocarina were really good examples that could have worked in Oblivion.
Oblivion has more soul than Skyrim.
