go try doing some spells on your self of any of the schools of magic like restoration, buy the biggest usage of mp spell you can currently use and use that to level up.
you can count the number of casts and note that after a few levels it will go from 3 casts to 4, then 4 to 5 as you gradually increase in that skills level.
at some times because of the size of the spell and the amount of xp needed, you can count the same number of casts through multiple levels, and sometimes even count say 5 casts for one level, then the next level takes 4 because of the remainder left from the last levels xp.
but in all it is dependent on your specific skill* level because of both MP cost reducing with the level of the skill, (it is negligible in terms of how much xp is awarded,) and the amount needed to reach the next level in said skill.
the xp itself is determined in spellcasting by the mp of the spell itself, but the mp cost goes down with each level of the skill so in that way alone you can see that it will take longer each level, but at the same time the amount of xp needed for each level does also go up.
other skills outside of spellcasting just use the increase in xp required for each level.
magic is insanely fast to level up, if you do it the way i explained and each time you go up a rank from like novice to apprentice and journeyman then expert you buy the biggest spell you can currently cast for that school you will be max in all magic in less than an hour.
blades though only increases by 0.5 each hit that is landed, regardless of the damage done so it should be slower than magick, but at the same time everything still seems to level much faster than it should at the lower difficulties, at master it can be welcome but on lower difficulties you are essentially a god early on.
But 50 - 100 range will be much slower
