illusion magic and armor

The stuff I’m reading about spell effectiveness suggests that many illusions spells will be less useful while wearing armor. How do y’all deal with this? Do you wear armor and deal with the penalties? Or go no armor and use enchanted clothing?

Once i made it into university, I use robe.
But curios about numbers as well.

In other RPGs my caster always had some sort of armor and shield and maxing AC just to be able cast spells without penalt.
