Is there a way to recompile shaders?
I'm really getting sick of these massive stutters that seem to come and go and seeing the world load in... Is there a way to redo the compilation process?

go to c:\users\username\my documents\my games\oblivion remastered etc and rename save_settings.sav (just add backup or something to the end of it) and then load the game, it will recompile shaders, at this point you can either reconfigure the game setting, graphics and your controls, or quit and delete the new game_settings file it generated and rename the other one back.

Hey thanks for responding so fast. Can I just ask why I would delete the newly generated file? Or is that file you're talking about the actual settings like mouse sensitivity and graphics options and such?

the newly generated file is the one with the graphics settings and stuff set to default, so unless you want to set all that stuff up again, delete the new one and rename the old one back.

To be a lil more precise here's the exact path to it that I have seen posted:

C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\SaveGames

..and you're looking to delete the Save_Settings.sav file, which will recompile the shaders but also resets your settings.

I saw mentioned (I just manually rechanged the settings again, myself), that you can delete the file, recompile the shaders? then restore / copy back over the file to get best of both worlds? Recompile and keep your settings?

That doesn't entirely recompile however, as I have also seen posted. There are other more advanced methods too I believe but either way...

For instance here's another recent thread on it I just found(prob what I'm originally referring to seeing before):

I tried every way people have claimed to recompile shaders and this one file was the only thing that had any bearing on it. I also manually deleted my nvidia shader cache at the same time though (where the shaders are actually stored), so that may have helped. I restored the save_settings.sav after recompiling shaders (as I mentioned above, because I change a lot of my controls and stuff) and it's been fine.

Yeah I've only seen it posted, over time since release, some of those other ways... but all I have ever done is delete that one file and it seems to work for me just fine :]

Thanks for this info. I seen a few gamers saying every stutter is because of EU5 and no way to fix it. Hopefully there is a patch to make shaders load better. Or a mod at minimum.

a lot of the stutter isn't related to shaders. the only time I get stutter is on cell load, which was a thing in the original game too.

I'll give that a try then. Thank you.
The solution above does not delete ALL the shaders, only partially.

For a full cleanup: start the game with the -clearPSODriverCache command line argument.

That's not the issue I am getting. What happens to me is completely randomly the game just starts to become unplayable with full second pauses happening every few seconds. I'll see my frametimes starts to spike, my GPU usage going from 99% to 1% for a split second, and then I can't do anything. I can be running around, smoothly, playing well, having fun, only for the game to suddenly become extremely frustratingly slow and bad.

Also, sometimes going into certain areas in the Imperial City for example, I can see the buildings and NPC all loading in really slowly. But then simply restarting the game will fix it. I've seen on the video by Benchmark King on YouTube that the game can randomly start redoing shader compilations sometimes without telling you which can cause these problems. So that's why I'm trying to reset mine.
TO DELETE SHADERS:

nVidia: %AppData%\Local\NVIDIA\DXCache

or

AMD: %AppData%\Local\AMD\DxcCache

You can also go to Windows Settings > Storage > Temporary Files and check the shader cache option to delete shaders.

TO RECOMPILE SHADERS:

%userprofile%\Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered\Saved\SaveGames

Look for the save_settings.sav file. You can delete it, but it will reset all graphics to default or just rename it for the moment. Launch the game and it will recompile the shaders and write them to the above listed directories. After, if you renamed the file, you should delete the new one and rename the original to restore your settings.

I think doing the command line argument in the launch parameters affects it too

-clearPSODriverCache

I'm on Game Pass and I can't see that file in Saved\SavedGames.

I keep seeing mentions of game pass. Isn't that an xbox thing? Is it related to Steam somehow?

It's a microsoft thing - Xbox and Windows. Subscription and you get to play games while you're subbed and the games are on there.
