All containers reset items on a timer. RIP all my items.
What is the point in buying a house or leveling any other skill but strength when every chest and container resets its contents and deletes all of you items. this has happened to me 2 separate times and now have to go back in my saves again and lose irl days of my life having to do the same boring dialog all over again, this also makes it to where i have to sell after every couple of quests to avoid becoming encumbered. at this point im debating the infinite carry weight glitch or just not playing the game till this issue is addressed and fixed in some way.

That was too little information to answer. The containers in Frostcrag work fine.

What player house did you use? Are you even in one? Did you get it without cheating, so all flags are correct?

I had that issue when I took over Battlehorn Castle. I explored enough caves and ruins to earn enough money to buy all of the Castle upgrades. I stored all of my food and alchemy items in the kitchen. I went in there to put some stuff away and found all of the crates and barrels had reset. I had about 12 Sigil Stones in a chest my room upstairs, that meant I'd lost 12 Oblivion Gates worth of alchemy items that could only be found in Oblivion, which included Daedra Hearts.
I feel your pain. There is a mod that marks all non-respawning containers with an * that you could look into. Other than that the chests at Frostcrag def work fine. Thanks

This.
I'm also using Frostcrag without any problem.

Google "Oblivion Safe Storage" and find out where it is safe to store items and where it is not.

Spoiler: Most places are not safe. But some are. Containers in a player house (stored AFTER you obtain ownership) should be safe. But check the UESP wiki page for best info and a few exceptions.

You know thats how all Bethesda games of this sort (TES/Fallout) work? Once you kill an enemy or open some "storage" thing, it will reset/respawn after some time, I think in Oblivion its 2 ingame week (though I am not sure, never cared). The "only" exception from this is player setup containers, like in their houses. However, it is just the house itself. So in case of Battlehorn, it is just the private area, everything else behaves like everything else and will reset after some time, and all items included are gone.

Btw when you start a new game, there should be nothing you have to store away, unless playing on very easy or cheating. Sell everything, get 2.000 gold and get your Waterfront house to use as storage and never ever use anything outside as permanent storage.

I explained it perfectly fine. so your "answer" is to only use frostcrag to store items only because you haven't experienced this bug there yet? what a contribution to society. btw its every container/chest in the game. household or not, the items will reset after a certain amount of in game days. quit squatting in frostcrag and buy a house maybe experience the game for yourself before offering help on a oblivion comment thread. Thanks for nothing. oh and also i haven't cheated once but aight. This is something that can ruin an entire play through. nothing to joke about or take lightly.

The problem is you explained nothing.
What house are you in? Did you buy it or do the related quest and is it therefore legit? Are you using one of the unsafe containers in player houses?
I am sorry, but you give us none of the relevant information, only complaints.
not all containers, but most. Unless you own the house/room, and even then not all are safe. For example, once you become leader of the thieves guild, all the containers in the bedroom are safe, but none of the other containers because the grain sacks in the whole house are. If you own a house though (like one you bought), all the containers in the house should be safe. Early on, there is a tree stump behind the staff shop in the imperial city that you can store stuff in.

I put all my junk inside the House in the Imperial City Waterfront and it's been 50+ days and all my stuff is still there.

no. if this is true and you legit bought a house then it's a bug. I stored tons of ♥♥♥♥ back in the day and never had this happen. I have not bought a house yet and am using a tree stump and all my stuff is still there. certain containers will not reset.
There are safe containers in the game, typically they are in your owned houses/properties.

OP must've put them in an unsafe container which iirc gets reset in about 2 in game weeks.

PS: With the remaster release, search engines are filling search results with modern gamer journo slop. If you need info on Oblivion I highly recommend just bookmarking uesp(Dot)net and referencing the original Oblivion wiki. It has a search bar and that's where all the legitimate and well documented info about Oblivion is.

If we look at Battle Horn Castle, apparently we discover that SOME of the containers are actually unsafe, so you'd want to verify which ones are and which aren't.
Jauffre's chest at Weynon Priory is save after he opens it for the player. It's part of early main quest, where you have to deliver the amulet to him. I did not use any other chest til now, and I have put plenty of stuff in it with different chars. There's also a bed in the house where player can sleep.
