Where spirits have lease
I'm at the part where you have to convince Velwyn to return with you to lift the curse and, according to the wiki, you need to have at least 60 disposition with him in order to proceed. The problem is that, since I had crusader armor on when speaking with him the first time in Anvil, my disposition was instantly set to 100. Despite being at 100, it doesn't give me the option to convince him to come with me, and I assume it has to do with how the crusader armor gave me 100 disposition

I can't reload an old save because I bought the manor and then went to do other things for a significant amount of time, so I would lose a lot of progress just to get this one quest fixed

I'm not familiar with the specific quest, but you could try to "jostle" it a bit. Maybe hitting him with a charm spell, or maybe even attacking him and then surrendering to lower disposition. Or the tried and true "wait 1 hour to see if he goes to the right spot".
So you are in the Imperial City and can´t convince Velwyn to come with you? Have you found the Skeletal Hand and the note next to it in your Anvil house?

I tried all 3 of those and unfortunately no luck. While I did assault him and get his disposition down to 20 and persuade him back to 85, he still refuses to help me

The step of the quest I'm on says "I need to convince Velwyn to come back with me to Anvil and lift the curse", so I would assume that's the stage I'm supposed to be on to do this

In case you haven't figured it out - you have to pick up the dairy entry before he will agree to help you. Same thing happened to me.

So you have to pick it up and not just read it?

If that's the case, then that's pretty stupid, but not completely unrealistic

dude I KNEW IT i even thought about this but thought "there's no way I'd be that stupid, it must be something wrong with the game" and didn't even check my inventory
and lo and behold I go back into the manor (after clearing the ghosts (in the basement too) for the fifth time) and of course I PRESSED ESCAPE INSTEAD OF ENTER when reading the diary and it's just laying on the ground...

I think this even happened to me in the original :er_sweat:

Yes, it's stupid. The note should automatically be picked up instead of just read when it's crucial to have in order to proceed. Or even better, it shouldn't be necessary to carry that note around when the NPC could just as easily just be told.

That's always the case in every elder scrolls game. You need the quest object, and if that's a note or a book, you have to pick it up. Like how you had to pick up Agamir's shovel in the Thoronir quest even though he's dead, laying in the crypt and has the shovel next to him and it is obvious what was going on.
