Just finished main story (no spoilers)

When the game came out ages ago, I never finished the main story. I remember vaguely that I had to clear a gazillion oblivion gates which was boring. So I just finished all the side quest and never got back to finishing the game.

Now I did and I got to say the last part was great. Really hit me, was a good ending I got to say.
But how the hell do you keep Jauffre and Baurus alive in all that chaos?
And now I cannot get any sigil stones any more, right?
Are they better than echantments?
Or are enchantments as good?

Sigil stones at lvl 20+ give the highest possible enchantments, even greater than what you can do at an alter.

You can craft a cheap spell and do a cheap weapon enchant to more or less 1-2 shot everything. That'd probably keep the Blades alive.

Not sure but I think gates stay until closed and I think there are 60ish in a playthrough.

Yes, once dagon is gone, all the gates close, and you go to the shivering isles.
or do knights of the nine, whichever order you want.

or you can just dungeon crawl until you get bored.
