Magicka regen sucks
I Have 100 intelligence/100 willpower & in combat magic isn't effective because the regen is so slow. Meanwhile npc mages spam you with summons & spells nonstop.

Are we not meant to be full casters in the remaster? Have I missed something, why is my regen so crap? Even with enchantments if I had 200 willpower it would still be too slow.

Edit: I ended up downloading a mod that removes the delay after casting. It wasn't a thing in the og game anyways, makes it feel way better.

isint there a drain magicka spell, like theres a drain fatigue (useful for knocking enemies down.) and drain health? you might be able to spellcraft that to 100% Magnitude.
This is why I always go Atronach for the Birthsign. 100% spell absorb lets you restore your MP by casting telekinesis spells, they even patched this version so the spells actually work now even with 100% spell absorb while still giving you the 500% magicka recharge.

At 100 Mysticism you cast Apprentice > Journeyman > Expert > Journeyman > Apprentice and your magicka is fully recharged (as long as you have at least 5 magicka, skip steps 1 and 2 as needed)
Playing as a Mage - What do u guys mean for Rings, Chain, Headgear and Boots which Stat? Int or Willpower, or Magicka?

I would go with willpower for the regen over more flat magicka. It's up to your digression though, & remember sigil stones give the highest enchantments.

For gear enchants, I'd get elemental shield up to 85 defense from Sigil Stones and 100% resist/absorb/reflect magic before getting Int/Will/Magicka... But I mix in some enchanted weakness to Magicka stacking via weapon attacks. I suppose with high enough Magicka/Regen, you can cast defensive buffs instead.

You really have to go all in for pure mage builds. The way most people build characters, they should really be playing them as a battlemage or other hybrid caster the way they rolled the character.
For Large battles you definitely need to be popping mana potions. Abuse weakness-stacking to counter the difficulty modifier and blow up enemies like you were playing on Adept.

Other people have mentioned that it's a good idea to have 1 or 2 fortify willpower spells that you cast before entering combat. That will multiply your Magicka regeneration. Combine it with a high-tier potion, a large mana pool and an enchanted dagger to finish off low HP targets, and you should be good even on Master difficulty.

A max level Necromancers Amulet will boost your Magicka pool by 158 points and will allow you to shift 2 or 3 enchantments over to fortify willpower instead of Magicka.

Shield spells are relatively cheap, so I wouldn't max out on shield enchantments with an unarmored build.
It's not just about having 100 intelligence and willpower, you need to be wearing enchanted items, the robes you get from the mages guild give you more and more magika as you progress which helps you cross the threshold of being able to kill enemies without having to wait to recharge.

I mean.. WILLPOWER. go google it.
If you have it 100, then you are already more than many others play magic characters, you actually have it easy.

My mana regens in combat. If yours doesn't, something is up. Or you're the apprentice sign

Just enchant for spell absorption and be done with the worry

started a game with atronach sign made it to lvl 36 so far and have been relying on magicka potions obviously. Then decided to try a mage build, altmer with lord sign and oh horrors,100 int 80 willpower, feels worse than my atronach and still 100% dependant on magicka potions in combat lol
