Ah..the Crashes, the Unoptimized mess that is Oblivion Remastered.
I have alot of experience with UE5 games. Played quite a few of em, notable ones being Black Myth Wukong, The First Descendant, Lords of the Fallen, Clair Obscur, Ark Survival Ascended, Khazan The First Berserker.

In most of those game I had no issues, even with Frame Generation on if I feel the need to use it.

However since Oblivion Remastered is a bit of a unoptimized mess, with some clear issues with its UE5 engine use. I basically went thru hell trying to figure out why I would crash, seemingly at random, no given reason.

It majorly happened from going in and out of an area. Sometimes from just quicksaving.

Or just abruptly happen when im crafting or looting.

I run a i9 13900KS with a 4090 RTX, Asus Rog Hero board, 64GB of 6000MHZ ram.

So I went thru the motions.

Tried disabling mods, no effect.

Tried a Engine Fix, no effect.

Tried DLSS changes, no effect.

Updated my Bios, no effect.

Updated Nvidia Drivers, no effect, though did see FPS improvement.

Tried FSR, no effect, FSR also kinda sucky.

Tried game verification. No effect.

Tried the Unofficial Oblivion Remaster Patches, no effect.

Tried just putting all my ultra settings to medium, no effect.

Spent several hours trying different things.

Then I realized, my friend, whos been playing, never crashes. Her hardware is vastly inferior to mines.

I remembered shes running a 3000 series card...so no Frame Generation.

I turned off, the Frame Generation, still get 120fps in interiors, 100+ outdoors at least.

I then proceeded to going in and out of places, rapidly, re-enabled fast travel *I disabled it via a mod* just to try warping to places randomly and rapidly. Tried saving, then killing something, only to rush back outside.

And just like with the very badly designed Ark Survival Ascended....

Game lasted alot longer without a crash...but it still crashed after about an hour 20 mins

So then I tried disabling both Steam and Nvidia Overlays. I was using Nvidia for its RTX HDR since the remaster has no HDR *which is a shame really*

No crashes at all in the 2 hours I played after.

I even tempted fate by changing configurations midgame since changing your display config during gameplay can lead to a leak.

Still no crash.

Now I gotta isolate which of the two is the true culprit, just will suck if its the Nvidia HDR....really made things look better.

Its the Frame Generations fault.

Figured id put this here for those on 4X or 5X cards.

If you can get 120fps without frame generation why on earth would you have it on in the first place, it's just going to make your game look worse and it sounds like less stable to.

120 for interiors, outdoors it fluctuates between 100 and 120 without it.

Bottom line though, anyone who blames it on Hardware doesnt really know anything, its a Game problem not a User problem. UE5 issues varies between game to game, but Oblivion Remaster seems to have the same issues Ark Ascended had at its launch. Not sure if they even got around to fixing its problems in that game.

I'm running 4x frame gen on my 5080 without crashes. Honestly it's probably your Intel CPU - the 13 and 14th gen ones have stability issues - you can look it up all over the web. - maybe try some different bio settings like those articles suggest

Sucks you're having problems when others are not. Try different settings, maybe a different drive.

40 hours, 0 crashes on a 4090
Friend 1: 72 hours, 1 crash on a 3060
Friend 2: 22 hours, 0 crashes on a 3090
Friend 3: 28 hours, 0 crashes on a 4070

Safe to say, this is your system.

Already tried that with a Bios update.

Either way, its not the hardwares fault. Its the game and its horrible optimization.

If I dont get crashes no matter what I do on all the other UE5 games I played, then I shouldn't on this one unless its a optimization problem with UE5.

Only Nvidia and Bethesda can fix this now.

Another ignorant response.

Ill say it again.

Its a optimization issue. Your likely not running the same CPU I am, if you are, then I highly doubt your not crashing, or you turned off Frame Gen.

Once again.

I play other UE5 games perfectly fine, three of them having far higher graphical fidelity than Oblivion Remaster has.

Safe to say, your bullshitting.

yeah my game crashes alot as well. I did change the game to fullscreen and it seem to reduce how often. I do remember back playing this on the 360 when it first came out almost 20 years ago I had the same crashing problems.

Yes, Fullscreen would reduce the impact indeed. I also find it absolutely silly to blame the CPU, when the game barely uses even 15 percent of my CPU, its all being taken care of mainly by my GPU hitting 85-90 percent.

This is absolutely a UE5 problem, and I hope the next major update, will fix some of these issues.

Had 3 crashes in my approx. 14 hours up to now. I have i9-13, 4070ti, 64gbram.

Crashes came when CPU got too hot, and it does with this game. So I found a way to cool it more efficiently and tada, no more crashes. If you still crash, check the status of your i9. They are known to degenerate due to several reasons if not handled properly...

I am also pretty sure it's your system.

My point stands though if your minimum fps is 100 without it you don't need frame generation. It's degrading your visual quality and giving nothing of any value.

Well then tell that to the people playing it right now....about 106k.
It may not work for you but it does them and me.

I told you, if you bothered to actually read a damn thing.

The crashes stopped, soon as I stopped using FrameGen.

I can play Black Myth Wukong, Clair Obscure, The First Descendant, and other UE5 games for several hours at a time, non stop, one sitting, and not get a single, problem.

I know you wanna fanboy it up, but that doesnt help things, if you dont give comparisons and criticism, things dont get fixed.

I also have a vastly superior cooling solution for my CPU than you, I am 120 percent sure.

Its the game at fault.
