Shivering Isles is overrated
I kept hearing people talk about how great this DLC was, but after starting it i just find it incredibly boring and out of place. It's not even funny like people said it was. Fetch quest after fetch quest, and it feels so opposite of Tamriel that its jarring and takes me out of the experience.

And after hearing people talk about how this was the greatest DLC out of any video game ever...I'm sorry but I cant help but laugh.

It's not bad, but its not great either, and the entire DLC somewhat feels lacking in substance, because there's not much depth to any of it. Knights of the Nine had me curious about what was going on in its story. Shivering Isles is ironically predictable and uninteresting with a boring aesthetic. Mushrooms, rain and a swamp with nothing notable in the world to discover. There are fast travel points for areas with quite literally nothing in it. A random camp, a cliff, ect.

Incredibly overrated imo

No one cares
yeah, im trying to rush through it right now because I just want the armor. I'm sure it was a great DLC at the time, much like many of the Fallout 3 DLC's they didn't really age well.

Thank god i'm not the only one. It just feels like a slog and the environment bothers me to the point I wanna go back to Tamriel

Yeah Its kinda dookie. Most of the DLC does too.

The whole game was only designed to appeal to certain kind of player, Shivering Isles is no different. Just don't miss dusk/dawn fang, best 1h weapon in the game cause it recharges itself every time the sun goes up or down.

Your opinion is incorrect
I never enjoyed Shivering Isles either. And how can opinions be correct or incorrect?

Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one and they all stink.

Absolutely crazy that people are hating on the Isles. Yes, 20 years later you're not going to get the same wow factor as when it came out but consider the amount of content you get out of that DLC, there's actually a good number of dungeons, side quests, new armor and weapons. Its far outnumbers anything Skyrim has done.

Also I just think the remaster makes the Isles look ugly. It took away the vibrancy, and the contrast between Dementia and Mania isn't as big.
Give me 3 quests from any RPG in the vein of "Vitharn".

Or if that's too difficult, how about the same ask but like "Ghosts of the Hill of Suicides"?

And I get not everyone likes these quests, just like people who don't like Monty Python don't care for various references the game makes, but it's a bit silly to wait 20 years to call something overrated due to likely comparing it with recent things (maybe not intentionally - but it is bound to happen).

Personally - just finishing the quest and becoming Sheogorath is fun when you get a spell that changes the weather and his staff that literally turns off AI for a second (personally - better than the base game quest line ending and making you wait for some armor that's ok). Hell - doing the DLC even changes the "Shrine of Sheogorath" quest up - so Haskil talks to you and is like "Oh lord, praying to yourself now?"

Can you at least go in there to buy neat things?
In 2006 it was incredible. Moreover, there are many aspects of the game that are still strong in 2025, which shows that the industry hasn't been able to evolve open-world games in 20 years.

Yeah - new summons, 2 smiths with distinct armors (light = Amber / heavy = madness), and there is a zombie dog companion you can get via a 2 second quest as some stuff.

They have some other weapons as well to find, like one of the frog-like beast races have cudgels and primitive stone sword like weapons (not a full set though).

If you find one guy who is hard to miss, he can also make you special bone arrows which are sorta cool.

Same. I played it for the first time 6 months ago and was similarly underwhelmed. Plus. Sheogorath is REALLY annoying. Dude, like, just shut up.

It's overrated because they changed a lot of the things that made it great. What happened when you punched Sheogorath was iconic.
