JFC Thieves Guild is bugged to hell
I was doing "Taking Care of Lex" but the Stranger wouldn't actually deliver the forged letter after 24 hours, so I load up an earlier save and have to do start the entire questline from scratch. Second round, I get to "Ahdarji's Heirloom" and the ring won't spawn in the jewelry box.

I then make a new character altogether, start the Thieves Guild questline yet again, and on this new character/save; guess what? The ring still won't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ spawn in the jewelry box! I autistically followed the quest marker just in case any deviation would break any scripting and I still got ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over.

This quest worked fine for me. You have to wait until the countess is asleep in the bed next to the box for it to appear.

Sounds like normal Oblivion jank to me, reload until you finish, that's the old way of getting through bugs.

Sorry for the rant, but this got me curious about a bug I encountered in the original game way back. I couldn't complete a quest because of an important essential NPC in Leyawiin turning up dead on the road north from Leyawiin. I couldn't remember what it was, but you mentioning the Thieves Guild questline bugging out on you made me think that's probably the one.

Turns out it was the Countess herself. She rides on horseback to Chorrol on a set schedule or something to that effect and got killed by a Land Dreugh in my save.

Well, she IS supposed to be killable once you do the Thieves Guild questline and she loses her essential status... but if she dies, the Sanguine Daedric Prince quest breaks. That must have been what I was on at the time after doing the Thieves Guild questline.

I need to keep that in mind in the future. Figured I'd mention it here since I thought of it and warn other people that it's probably still an issue in the Remaster.

First off - I love your avatar. Yeah the problem with this game is the immersion can also be its downfall lol. I cannot lie, I'm having fun trying to find NPCs and realizing they all have their own schedules, bugged it may be. I had no idea she was tied with the Sanguine Prince, I may have to prioritize that.

It's not too bad because she's marked, but I remember I kept waiting for her to come back to the castle, but no matter how long I waited, she never arrived. Then I realized she wasn't far from town, so I went to investigate. Walked up to her, sitting on her horse, tried to talk to her and got the loot menu instead. Then as I exited it, a Land Dreugh came out of nowhere and assaulted me. I had never even seen one before and found it extra creepy, so to say this memory stuck with me would be an understatement.

Yikes, the land dreughs remind me of those nasty things that hang out by lakes in Fallout New Vegas lol. Is she bugged out in your current save? I want to play more, but this game bluescreened my game last night so I have to prowl the forums for fun stories now. What are your favorite parts about the remaster? I enjoy the visual rehauls but on my 13 year old rig its pretty rough, I also miss the green / blue hue on everything for some reason.

Probably Mirelurks, I'm guessing. Mirelurk Kings are awful, they shoot sonic waves at you even from the water. I actually don't have the remaster at the moment, I'm living vicariously through people like you on the forums. Planning to get it first chance I can next paycheck, since thankfully the sales on Fanatical and GMG that started day one are for a four-week period. That being said, I'm super excited to actually create a character. The character creator looks fantastic.

And yeah, the slightly browner look of everything is a bit of a downgrade from the original's very lush and vibrant coloration, but a large part of what made the original Oblivion look so fantastical was the bloom effect and... well... as great as that was when I was like 14, I'd rather not have it come back. Some ENBs should be able to lush up the graphics a bit, if they're not already released as it is. Regardless, I've seen enough to know that even without a graphical "fix" to fit my preference, I'll still love the visuals.

Astute response. I agree with everything you said. There's some touch ups that modders will fix. The bloom feature was/is a relic for sure. Thanks for helping me remember the Mirelurks, yes lol. I spent about an hour in the character creator on my Argonian for that reason, everything is just unpotatoed so it feels nice. I honestly have no regret for buying it full price, I just need better hardware. Streamers, my brother, and other people are using 4x/5x series (or radeon) cards and I simply haven't kept up since 2014. Unfortunately everything is so expensive now - building a custom is going to cost $2K+ in my opinion. Or I buy a $1.5k prebuilt and hope it doesn't get destroyed in the mail.

I've got a Radeon 7600 that I purchased about a couple months back to replace my old GPU when it starting failing on me. From the benchmarks others have put up online, it looks like with a bit of tweaking the game will play decently well with it. I bought it at the perfect time what with the tariffs hitting just afterwards. I do not envy anyone trying to get a GPU right now, it's going to be just as bad as back in, what was it, 2016? 2020? Around then when the GPU prices skyrocketed. Glad my GPU didn't fail back then.

If you need something in the meantime, you could always just settle for a Steam Deck or one of its competitors (though I've heard from reliable sources that the Steam Deck is the better value). It's not going to get you the absolute best performance, but thanks to Valve encouraging developers to optimize for it, a lot of games will run better on it as time goes on and they get "Steam Deck Verified". My next goal is actually to get one, though I doubt Oblivion Remastered will run well on it even with the verified tag. Even without hearing the complaints from others, I know Bethesda's games well enough to know sometimes you just gotta brute force 'em with higher-end hardware.

I never messed around with Radeon cards (my first gaming laptop in 2011 used ATI/Radeon drivers and it was a mess) but I may look into it. I spent $595 on EVGA 1080 FTW2 in 2017? Interesting how a niche hobby became super expensive lol. I remember having birthday money to build a new rig and now I'm going to need a small loan. I give Bethesda props - they have always propelled me to update my rig because I love their games and open world stuff. What are your specs / average FPS open world or indoors?
