Grew kinda tired of Oblivion towers
The first ten or so times it wasn't so bad. But they get repetive. So. hopelessly. Repetive.
Hop into the oblivion gate, clear subtowers, pull gate switches, clear main tower, touch sigil.
Sometimes trapped rooms, locked doors and tunnels make for a change of scenery. But the core format rarely changes.

I've catched myself more than once speedrunning them. It's kind of ironic that my slow Knight in heavy armor and armed to the teeth can clear the maps by nothing but running, jumping past the iron gates and touching the sigil stones without even needing to fight once. On a brighter side, this made me want to roll a peace loving Monk who took a vow of non-violence as my next character idea.

I pray to the Nine Divines that the Skyblivion team made each and every Oblivion gate visually distinct. And sprinkled with puzzles here and there. Anything to break away from this repetiveness...

Yeah the variations of traversing Oblivion is very repetitive, speeding through to get the Sigils is the only interesting thing about it. It's fun to find shortcuts with excess acrobatics but other than that, Oblivion's main questline is a speedrunners dream. You can beat it on level 1 and run straight through the whole thing.

Well... There are a total of 90 random gates, but only 7 random worlds that get reused over and over. :wellok:
been a long time since i played the og game and im not that far into the remaster yet

but i do agree with you that oblivion gates became a real chore quite quickly to the point where i actively avoided them after a while because they were easy and boring in the original game. i doubt that has changed and thats why i havent gone too far into the main quest to activate them yet

very similar in concept to the way temples and artifact locations work in starfield - they become boring very quickly

word walls in skyrim were actually worth seeking out though. i enjoyed most all content in skyrim.

its ok you only have to close 100 gates for them to stop spawning :steamfacepalm: or finish the main story

The gates were the worst part of the game for me from the original. I never wanted to see another tower after I was finished with the game. Not so bad this time around. I don't think you have to go in all of them, I can't remember, but this time around I'm only going in if I have to. Still having a blast though. The game looks amazing. :loot:
It doesn't matter how many you complete, the only thing you miss is getting lots of sigil stones. You can just focus on the main quest, you only need to close about 10 of them and then once you finish the main quest all of them disappear, you can complete the rest of the game and all the side content without any Oblivion gates.

If however you want to take the opposite approach and do as many Oblivion gates as possible, it's best to wait until you finish the quest "Dagon Shrine" and before completing the quest "Paradise" that's when the most Oblivion gates will open if you want to collect as many sigil stones as possible. There is also a scripted Oblivion gate for each city and the citizens of that city will praise you for closing it.

There is a known bug that prevents already open doors from being closed, when the MQ is done.
You cannot enter them but Daedra are spawning around the door. :steamsad:

well... maybe the overuse of draugr was irritating to me
its been a while since ive played the game properly

although i would take draugr by the millions instead of a handful of cliff racers... srsly eff those things lol

Omg the word walls are so hype, makes me want to play skyrim and find one now. Damn Skyrim.. I keep wanting to play it. It's like tobacco.

How many of the gates do you have to close if you just want to finish the main story?

This might help you.. going to assume that the data is still the same from the original for this stuff.

Thank gods I have now completed the main quest. So no more cookie cutter towers. In this playthrough at least. Memo to Self: avoid the main quest in coming playthroughs like the plague.

How are they more boring than caves or forts?
