but i do agree with you that oblivion gates became a real chore quite quickly to the point where i actively avoided them after a while because they were easy and boring in the original game. i doubt that has changed and thats why i havent gone too far into the main quest to activate them yet
very similar in concept to the way temples and artifact locations work in starfield - they become boring very quickly
word walls in skyrim were actually worth seeking out though. i enjoyed most all content in skyrim.

If however you want to take the opposite approach and do as many Oblivion gates as possible, it's best to wait until you finish the quest "Dagon Shrine" and before completing the quest "Paradise" that's when the most Oblivion gates will open if you want to collect as many sigil stones as possible. There is also a scripted Oblivion gate for each city and the citizens of that city will praise you for closing it.
You cannot enter them but Daedra are spawning around the door.
well... maybe the overuse of draugr was irritating to me
its been a while since ive played the game properly
although i would take draugr by the millions instead of a handful of cliff racers... srsly eff those things lol
