Game won't launch: Fatal Error – DX12 not supported in project

Hi,

The game crashes immediately on launch with the following error:

> Unable to launch with RHI 'DirectX 12' since the project is not configured to support it.

I’ve checked my system — everything is fine:
- NVIDIA RTX 3060 Laptop GPU (fully functional)
- DirectX 12 installed and working
- Unreal Engine games run normally

I also tried:
- Forcing `-dx12` or `-dx11` via launch options
- Switching to high-performance GPU in system settings
- Clean reinstall of GPU drivers
- Running the EXE directly with admin rights

But the crash happens before any config folder is even created in `%localappdata%`.

From the crash log:
LowLevelFatalError [File: WindowsDynamicRHI.cpp] [Line: 810]
Unable to launch with RHI 'DirectX 12' since the project is not configured to support it.

This means the UE5 project was built without DX12 (and DX11 isn't enabled either), making it unlaunchable.

Please rebuild the game with proper RHI configuration (DX12 or DX11 enabled).

when people learn that:
- Forcing `-dx12` or `-dx11` via launch options
Is not a Option anymore because games made in Dx12 and not in DX11 anymore.

You need DX12_2 for the latest games, is supported from RTX 2000 cards and upwards, you need a Update on Windows 10 to get that update, Win 11 have it already.

Try to Disable Steam overlay, try to show us what the rest of your Laptop is be like and dont try to play this game in high/ultra settings in 1440p with that gpu (Laptop 3060 is basicly a desktop 3050 or in other words basicly a GTX 1070/ti.

It means the game engine detected one or more of the following:
- The GPU does not support DX12_1
- The GPU driver does not support Agility SDK by being years out of date
- The OS does not support Agility SDK, equally by being years out of date

On laptops by default:
Ensure your system power plan and drivers are set to High Performance profile so it forces use of the dedicated graphics

Then, if you have Windows 10, builds older than 18363 (v1909) updated to revision .1350 and build 19042 (v2004/20H2) updated to revision .789 are NOT supported, for if you have LTSC branch, only LTSC 2021 is supported.
Windows 11 is supported regardless of its build/revision

Then for the driver, if you were using GeForce Experience, remove it and install latest supported driver (Game Ready 576.28) manually from Nvidia's website, if this helps you were stuck in 5 year old driver branch.

i think more it is the problem with DX12_2 but if his System does not Support DX12_1 it will be even worse, as System requirements say this game lowest Is a GTX 1070ti that just Support DX12_1 but to miss that feauture can be caused by So much things like a Cracked Windows or what ever.

strange you miss DX12_2 feuture, this GPU and CPU support windows 11 and DX12_2 for sure, did you try to Install DX12 ?

You are on Windows 10, maybe you need a Aditional Update for Direct X

Yes, I tried it. The program says I have the latest version Direct X

Strange, you definitive miss the latest DX12 feautures.
in windows Updates, can you search for Aditional Windows Updates ?

Update: i know that Microsoft tryed to Push DX12_2 just for Windows 11 but they Rolled back after backlash, not sure how to fix it on windows 10, google up that problem.

WDDM version is 2.7 that is oudated too, 3.2 is Dated version.

Keep in mind there is a specific reason why I pointed you to 2 places, because:
- DXDiag will not show the system build/revision
- On older WIndows, DXdiag isn't accurately describing capabilities of the system anyway (case in point 6900XT + Win10 22H2 still shows FL12_1 despite it running FL12_2 games).

What is the revision number of your windows build 19042 (the number after the dot) ?

DX 12 not supported has two possible scenariors.
1 - Your GPU is old and does not support dx12 at all.
2 - You running an old version of Windows 10. DX 12 was fully supported only from a speciric version of Windows 10, meaning if you have a windows 10 that is not up to date, you get this error.
