Ahdarji's Heirloom bug (not missing)

Ahdarji's Heirloom quest, I've completed up to stealing the ring.

I made it through the Secret Room,
popped open Alessia's jewelery-box,
looted the Base Ring of Feather.

That's where the quest stops, no progression.
I've tried putting it back, equipping, re-looting, reloading, trying to talk to quest-folk in different orders, skipping the Secret Room, trying to give the ring to Ahdariji, etc.. the quest will not progress.

Anything I'm missing?

edit: derp, the Ring of Feather is NOT the quest ring.
