Everything Good About Oblivion Is 20 years old
I am serious. Everything good about this game is 20 years old. Oblivion was a masterpiece and it's still a masterpiece.

The only thing they did is use the Unreal Engine's native features to give it a new paint job and add 3 or 4 new animations. That's it...

The orginal sold for $49.99 in 2006. This remaster should be a $10 video game. In fact you could get better results if you were to use mods on the original game. The original doesn't crash that often either.

That said. They didn't stop at remastering the game. What I am concerned about is that they changed a lot of things for political reasons. Like race swapping dozens of minor characters like Marc Gulitte the mage at the mages guild in Anvil and making the blue skinned guards of the Shivering Isles black. I am sure you heard of the controversy around renaming gender selection in the character creator in addition to adding makeup and lipstick as customisation options. But what you need to realise is that there are hundreds of minor changes that combined show you what they attempted to do with this 20 year old game. Like their decision to turn the outfits of the Guards of Skingrad pink, changing the statue of Empress Alessia to make it more masculine and changing the Shrine of Meridia to cover her up, like they did in Skyrim too. These are all changes that are meant to pass unnoticed while carring the cultural shift that their new developers wanted.

What I am getting at is that they only removed from the experience with this remaster. They didn't add anything.

And before you ask why I care about all these... I care because they cared enough to make the changes in the first place. Why couldn't they just remaster the game? You see if they are worried about changing the race of minor NPCs in a 20 year old game like that then that means their priorities are screwed up to begin with. They are not concerned if the game is good or not. They care about what skin tone the characters on the game have and what sexual orientation they might prefer.

That means we don't have any hope that the next game in the Elder's Scroll series will be any good. Don't get your hopes up and don't buy any more remasters if they start cranking them out. Just mod the old games if you want a graphics upgrade.

Oh do please tell us about the issues that 8000 threads here have already whined about at length. Just toss your based take onto the heap.

Reported, and Blocked..

It was never a 'masterpiece' it was always a massive downgrade from Morrowind, the only thing they made viable was Archery. Garbage level scaling of enemies (bandits that shake you down for fifty gold while wearing ebony armor worth thousands), horrid potato faces, loss of proper stats, no custom magic, introduction of paid add-ons. It's the game that literally ruined gaming.

Anyone with a brain knew to stay far away from this after the horrid messes bethesda has put out for the last twenty years. I'm laughing at every one of you that wasted money on this trash heap. At least Skyrim had thousands of mods to fall back on when you tired of the bare bones unmodded version. Oblivion is just bad.
I'd ask "who gives a ♥♥♥♥?" but it turns out a lot of losers on these forums really do.

Game is pretty much the same experience I had the first time but I can sprint now and the UI is a little different. This is a cartoon fantasyland of make-believe with lizard and cat people. It makes no difference to me what they call your gender choice or which characters are black.

Most of us are grown adults, at the ages where we have mortgages and investment portfolios. There is no reason to be acting like such whiney children.

this is what I wanted anyways, so honestly I'm happy with it. I couldn't care less about this or that little change, because there's so much in the world, just how the hell are people able to remember such tiny details well enough to even fuss over? people need to touch some grass and stop moaning and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. the game is good, it's still true to the original, small changes like this hardly matter at all, and i'm not saying this because of any sense of left/right/inside out wing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, its just a good game, so people should stop looking for things to take issue with already...

oh no i cant see mommy Nocturnal's panties anymore.... just irrelevant reasons, they make the statues look way more impressive theres nothing to do with "covering" go to nexus if you wanna see some daedra titties... most of us dont care about Gender 1 or 2... the game is amazing like in 2006 with some extras..

i see just worth 10$ yeah its just drag and drop huh, dont drink that much skooma dude

Loser hmmm? I am a digital nomad with enough passive income to have the luxury to spend time on writing posts on Steam.... When are you going to move out of your mother's basement?

Hey i have a short story to tell you, in the year 2023 every game sucked. In the year 2024 every game sucked. Ive been playing old games because the modern ones are bottom tier trash, the end.

I've blocked him before, it seems that out of those 8000 threads, he probably made 7999 of em.

They added the type 1&2, some scaling fixes, some level fixes, Sprinting, and a few new quests.. But yes this is how you do a good remaster.

I can deal with a few useless race swapped characters..

The game itself is 20 years old. So yeah. Everything good about it is, too. Thank you Captain Obvious.

Wrote a novella to say "I don't like it and think it's too expensive".

Pretend I wrote a long post saying "I like it fine and was happy to buy it".
I think the graphical upgrade is good and that's not even a few weeks old. I also don't think it should be $10.00 I'm sure if it was remastered by 1 person they make more than $13.00 an hour.......Just leasing UE5 will cost you.

Royalty-based: If you're developing a game or application that relies on Unreal Engine code at runtime and earns over $1 million USD, you pay a 5% royalty on revenue exceeding that amount.

Seat-based: If you're using Unreal Engine for commercial purposes and your revenue exceeds $1 million USD, you need a seat license costing $1,850 per seat per year.

So let's say it's sold 2 million (not gamepass actual paid for keys)
that's 100 million. 5% to pay for use of Unreal engine 5 Down to 95 million now.

let's say there were 100 devs working on the game.
That's $185,000 just for these people to have access to UE5 development tools.

Let's say these 100 people make $85,000.00 a year
That's 8,500,000.00

Now it's down to $86,500,000.00

I'm sure there's taxes on all this money too.....
Let's say 38% so that's $32,870,000.00

Now it's down to $53,630,000.00

How long did it it take them to make the game?? Well we know the game was leaked in court documents and had an original release year of 2022. I'd say they were already working on it for 4 years. So 2018....

That's $68,000,000.00

we are Down to Negative -$14,370,000.00

So basically the game hasn't made any money yet.

Now you can see why it was shadow dropped. It costs millions to advertise a AAA game.

And please remember we don't know the real numbers.

The crashes are definetly 2025. That beautiful Epic games Crash Reporter is so 2025.
I ran the game fine, well above 60fps CTD, CRASH ♥♥♥♥ YOU CRASH.
Very fair and reasonable points. The days where developers pour their souls into a passion project are long gone. Now it’s all about the almighty dollar, and the people giving out the cash have agendas to push.
