Decorating bookcases?
So, one of my favorite things in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim has been decorating my house with my trophies, spoils, etc. In Oblivion Remastered I seem unable to put anything on bookshelves. Has anyone figured out a workaround for it?

OG Oblivion was also a pain in the ass to decorate. Things would fall off furniture when you reenter a room, nothing stacked with gravity, etc. Hell, even Skyrim sucks with that. My guess is no, there;s nothing you can really do short of using/creating mods.

Oh no, the OG isn't nearly as hard and you could easily decorate places you can't now, at all, like the bookcases I mentioned.

Trying to get things on a lower shelf oriented the way you wanted was damn difficult. And stacking things together was a nightmare. Ever try actually putting books on a bookshelf using the grab button? Stacking sideways or vertical was equally hard. And walking by too fast, even without hitting it, would destroy everything. Which is to say nothing about stacking swords on shelves. Weapons HATED being placed together and would spontaneously change orientation if it was a tight fit. No thanks, NOT fun.
If I still had my old save I’d show you my decked out house that looked fantastic. Virtually every surface had something displayed that’d been meticulously put there. I haven’t been able to do anything similar with the remaster. Hell, just trying to set a crystal ball down on a table is a nightmare.

This is how I remember decorating in Skyrim, not OG Oblivion, which as others have said, was a total pain. I had lots of mods, that is how I managed to decorate. Vanilla objects were very difficult to place, and would not stay in position.

I was lucky enough to not be plagued by bugs or ctds in the original, but I can definitely recall objects flying in all directions every time I entered any owned property.
try telekinesis spell, i think thats what i used in OG oblivion, i think it even lets you rotate the object but it might be just my false memory
this may not help you, but I haven't tried decorating my home in the remaster, haven't gotten one yet. Eyeing one in Anvil though...
Anyways,
I remember being able to "Grab" above the item I was trying to re orientate? Like if I wanted to reposition a skull that was lying on it's left side to be jaw forward, I would "Grab" ((press and hold "E") out and just to the left of the skull. So instead of "grabbing" the top of the skull, I would "grab" the air just to the left of it. Then when I lifted it, it would orient in the position I wanted it, and I could sit it back down.

Is this no longer a thing?

They had a mod for this, but there's still no official info on whether mods besides some minor tweaks will be a thing for the Remaster.

It doesn't seem to be, at least with many objects. They changed how the physics of grabbing items works.

Yeah i was just trying this exact thing because we used to be able to do it, but sadly no it doesn't work anymore. I've been fighting with this darn crystal ball trying to get it to stand right on my desk for longer than i care to admit :(

question is, why is Bethesda allergic to ROTATING ITEMS!!! its in the damn loading screens in skyrim, you can rotate while in inventory in oblivion, but cant do it in the world. in ANY of their games. i dont think you could in fallout ether if i remember right. unless you were placing buildings in settlement mode, but still not the items.
I feel you mate. I can't play OldBlivion without the Redecoration mod to move furnishings and objects around, and in the Remaster, the book cases/shelves have this weird barrier. also, the actual physics of the movable objects is a bit off, and the respawning interior items mess up the hard work. I can't wait for some mod to remedy this aspect of the Remaster, but I feel like it will be a long time till then.I feel you mate. Yeah this sucks bad!!! Need to fix that shelf border problem and also add a but to stabilize and allow rotate of items so you can organize better!!!

in order to put items on shelves you have to throw them there,it sounds ridiculous and it looks ridiculous, but it works. You grab an item by holding E,swing it,and then push E to release and it goes flying
I am hoping someone makes a mod that will make it possible to display books on shelves, as well as weapons on weapon racks. I have several in my manor homes and they all look very empty.
