dark brotherhood as a good character?
Is it possible to play through the dark brotherhood as a good character? I’m curious about the storyline but I’m not crazy about being in a murder cult lol.

There probably is a way but the initial recruitment does require you to murder someone. So, ultimately, it's going to depend on what you feel "good" is.
I mean, it depends on what you cook up in your own head, but there's really no good way to justify "murder for hire in service of a death cult" if you're playing a truly good aligned character.

Edit: That being said, will it affect literally anything outside of snide comments from the guards on occasion? Not really, so go nuts.

so long as you stick to only killing brotherhood quest targets you'll be fine, as for joining just kill anyone in the bravil skooma den their all as good as dead anyways
if you mean more fame than infamy then yes.
If being "good" assumes you yourself are not the one killing any given assassination target, then your best bet would be using a high-level Frenzy Spell to make your target aggro other NPCs and let them do the killing instead of you. The only problem would be even getting invited to the Dark Brotherhood (e.g. murdering someone).

In the OG, I know the final Arena Quest - the fight with the orc - counts as a murder if you do the orc's sidequest first, so that he'll ask you to kill him during the match, turning him completely passive. I have no idea if this is still present in the Remaster, but getting to that part would require killing a bunch of gladiators first and foremost.

If we're strictly speaking Alignments a la DnD however... if every contract has a "good" intention behind it, maybe that works, but that's very much stretching the definition of "killing is good".

The Dark Brotherhood is exclusively for psychopaths wearing clown hats, twirling their mustaches and cackling menacingly.

This is what the grey prince was good for. Killing the grey prince was basically assisted suicide cause he wanted to die so it didn’t really count as murder in a bad way if you’re playing a good character.
And since you had to kill the other fighters in the yellow team in the arena anyway it makes sense the DB would think you liked it.

Not really no
There is no morality in oblivion to my knowledge this isnt mass effect or fable.

Yea true
But your more of an assassin not a murder so if you use ninja logic such as seeing yourself as a tool that kills for the client and not a murder that kills for personal gain you can sorta keep your morality In tact…………. It is a long stretch tho. I could also be thinking more of the Skyrim DB now that I think about it.

It's not. I did it like this in the OG back in the days, but here it didn't work anymore.
Luckily you can just kill the adoring fan that pops up after you're the grandmaster. He literally resurrects after a few days. I put him to wait in my home, killed him there and after a few days of looking at his corpse in my house, he was alive again, adoring me as ever! :D:

I murdered an NPC that a town was complaining about. Win-win

Honestly? I found that there's a lot of rose-tinted glasses when it comes to The Dark Brotherhood story. What surrounds the Dark Brotherhood is what makes it special. Rewards for clearing bonus objectives, the open-ended nature of the assassinations, environmental storytelling are all what make the Brotherhood a fun faction.

The writing itself is clearly for evil characters and it's /really/ hard to justify it in a roleplay sense unlike the Thieves Guild. It comes off as incredibly cartoonish and campy, which can be a lot of fun in its own right, but the biggest challenge will be justifying it morally. But if you're going to play Oblivion, I always recommend people at least try The Dark Brotherhood.

For you? I'd say do the Dark Brotherhood, then the Knights of Nine questline after and find God.
