Running on 4 GB VRAM
Running Windows 11 and got mine running okay on an AMD 4GB VRAM RX 6500 XT which is DX12 compatible, low settings understandably but still nice to look at. My other hardware components are good using a i5 12600KF CPU and 32 GB Corsair DDR5-5200 on an MSI PRO Z690-A MoBo. All SSD. 650W PSU.

I turned all the bells & whistles off in the AMD Adrenaline except for Anisotropic Filtering, which is set to x2, Image Sharpening 50. Texture Filtering PERFORMANCE. The Frame Rate Limit is set to 60.

In the Gameplay settings the sensitivities are set to 25, Blood Splatter ON, Low Health Viginette OFF, and Camera Motion OFF.

Game Graphics Settings are: Full Screen, 1920x1080, V-Sync ON, Frame Rate Limit of 60, Motion Blur OFF, Screen Space Reflections OFF.

As for the Quality settings they are all set to LOW except Texture Quality to MEDIUM, Reflection Quality MEDIUM. Lumen Hardware RT is OFF, Lumen Software RT is LOW.

For the Advanced section Upscaling Technique is set to XeSS and the XeSS-Mode is set to Ultra Performance.

I'm using the Engine.ini mod as shown. I specified 3840 for the streaming pool size as this is 4096 - 256 = 3840 so it uses as much VRAM possible without capping and it seems to be stable for awhile now.

;===== 4 GB VRAM (3 GB texture pool) =====
[SystemSettings]
r.TextureStreaming=1
r.Streaming.PoolSize=3840
r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=1
r.Streaming.DefragDynamicBounds=1
[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.RayTracing=False
r.Lumen.DiffuseIndirect.Allow=0
r.Lumen.Reflections.Allow=0
r.Lumen.HardwareRayTracing=0
r.ShaderPipelineCache.Enabled=1
r.ShaderPipelineCache.BatchTime=2
r.GPUCrashDebugging=1

Seems to run at the 60 FPS cap with dips down to 45. One thing I've noticed is if you go through a door and the engine starts chugging then just turn around and go through the door again and then try again. Often it will stabilise on the first try, but sometimes it can require a couple of attempts to get a good one without the chugging. IIRC this was a fix in OG Oblivion at the time as well. If that fails then a fast travel away and back seems to be helpful especially if it starts chugging out in the open world. Indoors seems flawless.

Also have 4g vram and did a majority of these settings, so I'm glad my intuition hasn't led me astray (only suffered through one crash).

Still not hugely tech savvy, so the Engine.ini settings are a blessing and I'll try 'em out.

nice job, meanwhile others complain of performance issues and still insist on 4k ultra settings

Yes, please do. I think maybe the crashing is from overloading the VRAM limits so even larger VRAM cards might benefit from putting a limiter on PoolSize. Going through the door a couple of times or fast travelling creates an Autosave so perhaps that helps clear the VRAM or buffers or whatever. I'm gradually adding on some quality and when the fps strays away from the 60 FPS cap I back it off.

In case you are unaware that block of code goes at the end of the Engine.ini file and then after saving it recommends toggling the file to Read Only in File Properties.

* I should note that I take no claim for the Engine.ini tweak and that glory is all for the creator of the mod that can be found on the Nexus. Praise be to He!

Aside from some occasional visual tear, the engine changes significantly improved performance on my end.

Take my points, OP. You've earned it.

Enabling the V-Sync in the game menu seemed to help me with that. Glad I could help another who fell into the 4 GB VRAM trap. Cheers.

I should say in case it isn't obvious that one should shut down all things possible that could be using VRAM such as ÜTuba etc.

I definitely would like to get a better GPU with more VRAM but for me this will have to do for now. I've seen some of the screen shots and game play videos of the Champions and the game looks fantastic.

Wouldn't 3gb texture pool be 3072 as opposed to 3840? 3840 is closer to 4gb (4096)
Ye im getting 60 fps crashes every now and then but im not running ultra. It looks better than original and runs fine for the most part. PC gamers are sad elitists who demand everything always work perfect on their stupid computer they wasted 10 grand on.
Kaspar Apr 30 @ 3:05am
I took the liberty of increasing the texture pool size from the OG 3072 mod value with the idea to maximise the amount of VRAM hopefully available for the game. So 4096-256=3840 (interestingly = exactly 3.75 GB). I am hoping that this pushes non-game stuff off into the Windows shared memory space and gives the game more of the card's VRAM to work with.

Your comment has made me consider tweaking it upward from 3840 in increments of 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, or 128 though so thank you for that idea. Let's see where the wall is. I think I might be angering the gods though, as I was responding to your post yesterday a violent thunderstorm swept through the land here and knocked the power out so I went to bed.

this did help, i didnt have any mod i just copied your lines into engine
or there was a patch i didnt notice :v
Would it run with a Gforce GTX 960?
Kaspar Apr 30 @ 10:14am
I would have to say definitely not. 4GB appears to employ the very lowest graphical settings available to set in the game and in the AMD Adrenaline app. While the game plays and looks just okay on lowest settings 2GB would be just not enough. There is no lower than low.

You'd be better off just snagging a copy of the OG if you really want to play Oblivion. It plays very well at max settings on my older 2GB system and is, underneath the UE5 updated graphics, pretty much the same game.

I got fooled by not checking more thoroughly the minimum specs listed on the store page and assumed that since my card number (RX 6500 XT) was a bigger number than the number of the card listed (RX 5700) it would be fine. I mean the recommended card number is RX 6800 XT so I figured I was pretty close to that but NOPE! Too bad, so sad. So PSA: remember the second digit! 5, 6, 7, 8... but, but, but.. I'm old and easily confused... ha ha ha.

So even when I launch the game it throws a warning message I don't meet specs of 6GB minimum. It allows me to continue and states that I might encounter issues. I spent a lot of time messing with everything to arrive at where I am now and without that edit to the Engine.ini to limit the pool size it would have been a lost cause.

I would very much like to just go to the store and get a better card since the modern graphics are amazing and will likely sometime in the future, just not today. My current rig plays every game I have very well but I haven't been playing any recent titles lately. I suppose the most demanding game other than this I have is DOOM and it runs well on the 4GB. Cheers!

Thank you for your detailfull reply :)
I just bought the OG Oblivion and will play it again :)
I always had a soft spot for Oblivion, the memory of stepping outside of the imperial
sewer still lives to this day :D
I will set eyes on the remaster when I get a new system :)

Best regards :)
