I seem to be getting a bug when storming the court yard, either the legion guards start all out war and attack everyone, or the main quest just keeps saying charge the courtyard even though everything is dead

Go inside the castle by yourself, find the count, and return with the count's ring.

It'll pick up from there.

"In Oblivion Remastered, Savlian Matius may remain in the castle's courtyard even after all enemies in it have been eliminated. If spoken to, he will play dialogue as if the courtyard has not been cleared. However, you can simply just enter the castle, retrieve the Colovian Signet Ring from the count's corpse, and return to him, and the quest can be completed as normal."
