Which is why stacking something like 100% weakness for 1 second on top of a damage type, is better than just doubling the damage type's damage.
Was the grand soul gem filled with a grand soul? I forget how soul gems work in Oblivion, and if they can catch lesser souls or not.
I like high power enchantments on heavy weapons and bows and lower power for fast swinging weapons like one hander but if you know in advance you can have your high damage enchanted weapon put on the hot bar for hard fights only and bring charged stones
