> Instead of flat damage (that require huge amount of mana and skill), you can substitute it by damage over time. Several element spell will be easier to handle than single element one.
For exemple : 200 pure fire damage will be extremely hard to use (100 mastery, huge cost)
50 damage of fire/cold/lighning/whither will be easier. And 10 of each element over 5s will be even easier.
In OG i could quickly create and use a spell that would deal 200 damage over 5s that way ( 10 of each element for 5s), it would only cost half my mana and require like 50 or 75 destruction or so. ( don't remember exactly). it should still work that way. Such a spell will carry you from early to late game, and can even be upgraded in the same fashion once you reach greater destruction milestone.
Also, because huhh... reasons ? Taking more damage than your max health as DOT ( you have 150 hp, you take 200 damage over 5s, so you'll die), would send target flying. Which means they would get flung over, get back on their feet, then die before being able to do anything about it.
