All the NPCs are Poor
I'm breaking into peoples homes in the Imperial City and they're all basically destitute. None of them really have anything of value. They have worthless things like Corn stowed away locked chests. Maybe some standard armor.

I'm not even stealing anything either. 3 gold in the chest with the Very Hard lock? You can keep it, bud. Obviously yall need it more than I do.

so true i wasted like 20 lock picks high difficulty chest to get a silver cup haha really poor balance makes most of the game feel worthless to even do. Also persuasion/bribes are ridiculous to continue on with a mission you spend like 200 gold and mess with that horrid speechcraft game to continue on with the mission for a 100 gold reward it's pretty ridiculous.
Yeah, most NPC homes don't have very much. Kinda discourages the cat burglar roleplaying style. The real money comes from looting dungeons.

This would an excellent opportunity for modders to make a "wealthy residents" mod. Perhaps the rich neighborhoods in the cities could have better stuff to steal.

I went straight to the castles.
its why you steal from the shops or the actually rich homes not the common welps.

The castles generally have the best loot but also have guards and other NPCs going around. Overall there isn't much expensive "junk" in houses, glasses, cups, plates, knifes, forks, etc only have a value if they are silver... which is unrealistic. Where you sometimes find value is books, skill books are often over 100 septims in value.

Chests are just very random and a number of them are randomly generated content...

Yeah stolen stuff is not so lucrative and also fencer with low gold amount unless you do lots of Thieves guild quest to unlock the highest fencer. But sometimes you may have stolen stuff less intentional, so good to have fencer to dump them to then.

For loot I recommend instead breaking into the Imperial Office (outside Imperial prison) with super chest that always level scale with you. You can steal Office and Chest keys from the Commander when he is outside after 2 pm. Then it restocks randomly after 3 days.

You need to learn how to lockpick properly.. I never lose picks at all.

When you tap a pin up.. if it gives you a fast slide.. then let it fall to the bottom again and repeat til you get the slow pin animation.. then once you have it.. you can keep hitting that pin up before it lowers and it will always stay on that slow animation. This will make lockpicking much easier.

My market/fence stuff must be bugged because their coin amount doesn't change at all I can just endlessly sell in my save.
maybe they had a idiot in charge who broke the economy with tariffs so now everyone is left to live off ramem soup and tap water while they count the pieces of lint in their pockets

That is normal. 500 gold means he will only give you max 500 gold for one item, not more.

The best loot is worn by someone or something in a cave somewhere. That's how you get rich. Level up and go on the rampage. A set of chainmail armour will earn you more than a scally run through a city. Pretty soon you'll have stuff that hardly any traders can afford. Plenty of enchanted weapons, rings and amulets some of which are worth several thousand Septims. I have over 10 grand's worth of rings that I'm wearing and an amulet that's about 3000? All plucked from the dead.

Ah ok that makes more sense then I thought it was meant to decrease which I'm more used to from other games, thanks.
