Oblivion Gates zones, worth exploring for loot or just rushing the main tower ?
Are there good loot around the zones taking the level in consideration or is just a big empty zone where there's nothing good around ? Sometimes I find some average enchanted items but for the majority of times I find no loot, not even on the final Room/Tower

the best things are in my opinion the magic stones you get when you close a gate

If you think the Gates to Oblivion look neat and you want to spend time in Oblivion, then enjoy your game, but if you think it's tedious, you're not missing much if you zoom to the sigil stone.

I typically can make quite a bit of gold from selling the scrolls and using the alchemy ingredients to make potions. Usually the gear has too low of a gold/weight ratio to be worth carrying around.
the best bow in the game can be found in an oblivion area that you can access multiple times. I'm specifically not doing the final story quest just so I can get the highest level version of the bow.

rush the main tower and grab the stone. while you're there, explore the smaller towers too. there’s usually a few chests lying around. just don’t get your hopes up too high, the loot scales with your level.

you can be also very lucky, I got in my first oblivion gate a ring with feather effect on it! (found the exact same ring in the next gate too XD)

:steamsalty:
"the loot scales with your level" so when you are below level 10 or thereabouts, there is not a huge reason to explore the optional gates and dungeons. It will be a lot of "2 gold and one weak potion" even on vampire lords until you around level 20. Then check out the gates and dungeons.
Yeah theres alot of loot you should close all the oblivion gates before you finish the main story because then you lose the opportunity. Search all the fleshy pods and once you get into the higher levels the dremora will wear daedric armor sets and use daedrics weapons which can sell for alot.
My rule of thumb with oblivion gates :
- If your a low level (like sub 15); grab whatever random plants you pass by and kill only enemies you want resources from on the "outside" of the siege towers.
-- This is because some alchemical ingredients are obviously gated to being in Oblivion like Blood Grass

- Dremora units; the lower your level, the less likely you will find enchanted weapons on them, but if you find any, they are worth a good amount. Staves are also usually worth something, so the Dremora wizards are usually worth killing if you can do so fast enough (if you don't want to fight everything else). Once you are like - level 10+ though, it can be worth fighting only the Dremora for tons of money.

- The towers are where you really would search - not the wasteland outside of plants. Caves are just bad news; rip through them as fast as possible.

- Unlocking doors within the towers is often not a bad idea. Takes longer, and you might have to kill a couple more enemies, but if there is loot it's usually not terrible.

- Lastly, the Fleshy pods are worth searching if you see them. The final room of each gate generally has 2 to 3. Always search these at a minimum.

- Bonus : Don't forget, the Sigil stone's enchantment is determined on pick-up. Make a save before grabbing it if you are looking for something specific.

I used to consider Archer Dremora more valuable as well (arrows are valuable and would drop in massive quantities), but I think they addressed this as so far I found 1 archer who dropped 300 arrows, but they where worth the same as iron (when I am level 20)....
