Joining thieves guild bug

Amantius Allectus's diary is missing from its usual location inside his house, and because of this, I can't complete the quest or progress in the Thieves Guild storyline.

Seems like a bug and the quest didnt trigger properly. Is the quest started? Because the diary will not spawn.

Yeah, it started, and I don't think there's any solution for this... Can't load a previous save since I made a lot of progress. Maybe spawning the book with the console? idk

I had this exact problem, was bugged asf and couldn't use a save back.

If you are playing it on steam, use the command and write:

CompleteQuest 0002299B
or
SetStage 0002299B 100

If you are on gamepass, theses commands doesn't work, you are f**k. So only choices are a very old save or literally restart all from the begining like I did :/.

I think it's bugged when the girl take the book but you load a previous save game (it was my case) and for any futur saves the book wouldn't pop even if it's before all events

Yeah, I had similar issue with the Anvil's haunted house quest, where the paper didn't spawn next to the bone hand on the floor, I had to use console command to advance the quest, locking me out from getting achievements.

Highly annoying, but it's a replica of the original Oblivion, these bugs come along with it.

I think there is a mod to unlock the achievements after using commands

Yes, there is, but I'd prefer to finish the game first without using mods first, then enhance the later playthroughs with mods, so I can appreciate those more.
