The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

Pros and Negatives over the original.
Without talking about graphics because I personally do not care about graphics.

**Pros:**

1. Leveling system is much better, especially for newer players, though it has drawbacks (no more boosting levels).
2. Skill leveling feels more natural, but I level up just a little too fast.
3. Passive health regeneration out of combat removes a lot of unnecessary waiting.
4. Speechcraft mini-game is clearer, faster, and the menu for it is much better overall.
5. Much better third-person camera.
6. NPC blocking is much less annoying now.
7. Enchanted weapon effects are cool — you can tell what each one does before being hit.
8. Personally, the game crashes less for me.

**Personal Neutrals:**

1. Sprinting — I don't think it's needed, but I can see why people like it. It makes horses feel obsolete though.
2. Archery — haven't used it much, might be a positive change.
3. Compass showing enemies — kind of kills the point of Detect Life spells.
4. Some enemies respawn too quickly in dungeons and caves — you can leave and come back and some will have respawned.

**Negatives:**

1. Melee combat is worse. It's supposed to feel more grounded, but it doesn't because models aren't properly grounded. It feels clunky, and light attack strings (1234...1234...) are dumb. Forward power attacks often dash you through enemies.
- Video example: https://i.gyazo.com/8dfcdaf84c596ed3d85b1272a500b08b.mp4
2. Leveling melee skills is boring. Weapons now randomly apply magic debuffs or buffs. Only Hand-to-Hand can disarm. No more knockdowns with backward power attacks.
3. Difficulty is badly balanced. Adept is not the original's Normal, and Expert just bloats enemy HP while reducing your damage output.
4. Worse UI. Health bars don't update in real time — you can die or kill enemies before their bars empty. Bars move in jitters instead of smoothly.
5. Worse menus. Designed more for consoles than PC (same issue as Stalker 2).
6. Worse QoL. Opening the map shows the world map instead of the local dungeon map (unless you zoom in). Alchemy no longer auto-filters ingredients like it did in the original.
7. Worse inventory and menus. No more tabbed filters. Inventory is cluttered compared to the original. Hovering doesn't always show item info — sometimes you have to press another button.
8. Mana no longer regenerates constantly. After casting a spell, there is a brief delay before mana regeneration resumes.
9. No way to immobilize NPCs anymore without Paralysis. Draining Speed by 100% no longer stops them.
10. Goofy animations. Sprinting and forward power attacks with two-handers look bad. Reserve grip daggers are awkward.
11. NPC scheduling is broken. Waiting can freeze NPCs in place.
- Example: https://i.gyazo.com/6d06be86fbe85905db1537cbdd30c516.webp
12. AI pathfinding is worse. Enemies have trouble navigating terrain, especially hills.
13. No Construction Set available, heavily limiting mod creation.
14. Armor breaks extremely fast (probably a bug).
15. Vampirism visual bug for High Elves.
- Screenshot: https://i.gyazo.com/231ce9e46be14c853f4566e9d48cb559.jpg
16. Traps are non-threatening due to much slower physics.

This is just the few things I've noticed so far I'll probably add more as time goes on, You would think with a remaster we wouldn't need mods to fix issues with the game but now its looking that way for sure

The local map thing is annoying, but it is actually still there. You just need to zoom in on the map all the way and then zoom in more and it goes to the local map. Annoying as hell to get to, should just be a different tab or keybind to get to it, but at least it exists

Oh I know I should of worded it better my bad
Yeah, it was fun at first to see the world with a new coat of paint, but the underlying frame, the structure of the game is absolutely more unstable, more buggy, more of a pain to deal with.

A real accomplishment considering the original release, all the time they had and the countless mods created with real passion and attention to detail from the fans.

As soon as the dopamine from all the nostalgia leaves peoples brains, the issues will hopefully get some attention.

They wont be fixed unless we say something.
And even then ...

well my game hasnt been crashing atleast
which is a positive.
In regards to #3, Detect life is still fantastic if you're a rogue. You can pick up on enemies you haven't aggro'd, see enemies through doors, and once you start to learn the silhouettes you can even tell facing through walls allowing for easy backstabs.

It'll also warn you about monster closet traps where a bunch of skeletons are stuffed in a cubby waiting to be let out.

The difficulty is something I've noticed too. On Adept even as an unarmored Breton mage I can get beaten on for quite awhile before my health even hits 75% but the second I turn things up to Expert even the goblins become unstoppable monsters that rip me apart.

It sounds like yet another laundry list for unofficial patching is in order

Pros:
1. Levelling System is much better specially for newer players, but has its own draw backs such as no boosting levels now.
2. Levelling skills is a lot more in line but now I feel that I level up just a tad bit fast.
3. Passive Regen out of combat, brings it a lot more in line of waiting.
4. Speech craft mini-game is a lot clearer, faster and the menu for it being better overall.
5. Better third person camera by a long shot.
6. NPCs blocking isn't as annoying anymore.
7. The effects on enchanted weapons are cool and let you know what each one does before being hit.
8. Personally crashes less.

Personal Neutrals:
1. Sprinting, I really think its unneeded but I can understand how people like it, Issue is it makes horses obsolete.
2. Archery? I dunno I haven't used it. Might be a positive.
3. Compass showing enemies? kinda kills the purpose of detect life spells.
4. Some enemies respawn too quickly in dungeons and caves, you can leave and come back and some respawn

Negative:
1. Melee combat is worse, although its meant to be more grounded it doesn't work because the models aren't grounded as well as it just feeling way more clunky now, plus the 1234... 1234... combos are dumb for a light attack string. Please don't say there's more weight
there isn't its just visual weight there's no real mechanic weight.
your forward power attacks make you dash through the enemies, this happens a lot.
https://i.gyazo.com/8dfcdaf84c596ed3d85b1272a500b08b.mp4
2. Levelling melee skills is boring due to the things you now learn, I don't get why you place magic debuffs on enemies with mundane weapons. Or buffs on yourself with same mundane blunt weapons, only hand to hand gets to learn to disarm, No more knocking people down with backwards power attacks.
3. Difficulty is way off, Adept is no where near the originals normal and expert just makes enemies bloated in HP while reducing your damage.
4. Worse UI, it cant even keep upto date in real time
You can die without your Health bar being empty and you can also kill people without there HP bar being empty
The Bars themselves are not smooth like the original and go up in jitters.
5. Worse Menus, same thing stalker 2 did, its like its designed for console only these menus suck for anyone using a PC.
6. Worse QoL, For some reason opening the map no longer shows you the local map of the dungeon or cave you're in
instead showing you the global map which is useless and to show the local map you have to for some reason zoom all the way in.
Alchemy no longer auto filters like it did in the original.
7. Menus no longer have tabs that are filters, The Inventory overall is a mess compared to the original, Sometimes you can no longer just hover over an item to show information for some reason you have to press an extra button now
8. No longer always regening mana, Every time you cast a spell you now have a brief moment of not gaining mana.
9. No way to immobilise NPCs anymore outside of paralyse, Draining/damaging speed by 100% use to immobilise NPCS this is no longer the case.
10. Goofy animations, both for attacks and sprinting, mainly the forward power attack with 2handers both being ugly. Reserve Grip daggers is dumb too.
11. NPC scheduling is broken, Waiting can also break the scheduling, also sometimes they just freeze in place. https://i.gyazo.com/6d06be86fbe85905db1537cbdd30c516.webp
12. AI struggle to path to you really badly now, they also struggle to path around hills.
13. No construction kit limiting our mod makers.
14. Armour breaks extremely fast I'm assuming this is a bug
15. https://i.gyazo.com/231ce9e46be14c853f4566e9d48cb559.jpg this happens when you have vamprisim as a high elf.
16. Traps are non-threatening due to the slower physics

Hey by boosting skills do you mean getting skills above 100, like leveling up all magic skills to 100 and using oghma infinium to get level 110 in all the magic skills? Is this still possible?

On an unrelated note most of the bad and good bugs are back, like permanently keeping bound weapons/armor lol

No I mean sitting there casting the same spells
Or hitting the sleeping guys at the daedra shine to gain skills.

Horses were pretty obsolete in classic because Athletics is a thing. A decent amount outsped them and riding them didn't level it which meant you weren't getting faster which could hurt in combat.

4. Some enemies respawn too quickly in dungeons and caves, you can leave and come back and some respawn
This was generally a problem in classic, as well, at least so far this has been matching my memory of vanilla Oblivion. I have to imagine most people ran mods (as I did) to scale back the respawn timer to think it has changed.

It's very close if not exactly the same as original. It's just that they took the slider and made specific cut off points and picked very bad ones for enjoyable difficulty settings (for most).

Alchemy no longer auto filters like it did in the original.
Definitely a loss that it doesn't auto filter but it can be made to manually filter more precisely and it nicely shows (inaccurately if the potion is already 'set') the weight of crafted potions. A loss and a gain.

Good god some (most) of the menus are a mess.

The traps and hazard areas don't deal the same damage as the old Oblivion. Jumping across lava using water walking could kill you in a few seconds in the original but in this one it's not a big deal. Spike traps barely do anything.

Also most importantly, They Put Pants On The Zombies.
Even the Listener had man panties on.
This is an outrage.

learn how to format text instead of wombling off a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ block of unreadable garble next time and you might get more engagement.\

half of what you wrote either makes zero ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sense or is just the same as original and you think it isn't lol.

but sure keep trying to deflect from your tragic ability to format text, if only your speechcraft system could be improved.
