Had the same problem, just as the person above already said:
You need to get the ring from the dead lord of the castle and then you can get the quest to update when talking to the npc in the courtyard.

Well to be fair, in the original game they did tell you about the ring and the lord and would enter the castle with you. All that didnt happen for me in the remaster. I assume he had the same problem.
