More durable
durability yeah, it takes forever for mythril to decay and the chainmail will die in like one major blow on higher difficulties.

Later on as you get more skill, the difference between armors will become apparent, because the actual defense of the armor is a formula derived from the armor's base defense and your skill in the armor type.

If you only have 10-15 skill in light armor, then yes, they're both going to show up as the same defense because %s are rounded down.

But at 100 skill, Mithril will have more than Chain.

If, for example, Chain has 6 Defense and Mithril has 10 at Lv100, you might see 4 on both at 10 Light Armor skill because you're not high enough skill to get the full benefit of the armor.

But yes, the durability is one reason to wear it. Old armors get busted very quickly due to lower durability.

EDIT: Also, armor rating is affected by the remaining durability of the armor too. Keep that armor repaired!

good to mention that it's a floating point to integer system yeah.

They use a similar system for weapon damage. You can pick up an Elven Axe and it has maybe 1 point more damage than an Iron Axe if your blunt skill is only 5-10.

But at 100, there's way more than a 1 point difference between the two.

It makes sense, because if you're unskilled it doesn't matter if an axe is sharper or more dull, you're probably not going to do much with it if you don't know how to properly use an axe. Both a well-made axe and a poor axe are going to be about as good in your hands.

it's a dnd type system, truly RPG esque, and is why it's better than skyrim imo.

not morrowind tho, that's the GOAT.
