Linux Performance
I spent about a hour playing. Boy is optimization, at least for Linux, is poor. I don't have the best hardware, a 5800X3D paired with a 3070Ti. But I have settings at low with DLSS set to ultra performance and can't get 60FPS. To be fair, I'm not getting any sort of a stable FPS. It's jumping between 30 and mid 50s like crazy. I'm really hoping that there are some tweaks in the next few patches.

You mean 5800x3d? The game runs pretty much how unreal 5 slop usually runs imo. Worse than it should. I have to enable FSR with 7800xt to stay above 60 fps at 1440p.

This tweak improved game performance for me. Works on Linux.

Also, you might benefit from using the latest GE proton version.

I'm running it under 9.0.5 and doing fine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSddKH6HYGg This is a 3070 ti running it under Windows.
What distro are you currently using?

under 1080p 'optimized' you have dips into the 30s. Under 1440p 'optimized' you have dips into the 20s. That is not 'fine'.

There seems to be a misunderstanding.

That's good to hear. I'm trying to plan a Linux install on my new rig. Mind if I ask what distro(s) you are using?
TY in advance.

The better distros for gaming currently are Bazzite, CachyOS, Pika and Garuda. You'll have to use the per-game options under Steam to set them for an appropriate Proton version before getting them to launch/download. I've had success with Proton Experimental, Hotfix, and 9.0.5 depending on the game.

yeah, it's a sad affair, performance wise.

Like I have played other Unreal engine 5 games, including VR ones (pavlov when it was still somewhat alive for example) which always needs even more performance, and always managed to get 70 fps or higherw without framegen or upscaling...

Ryzen 7 5800X and rtx 4070 with 32GB of RAM...
This game right out of the sewer i just about get 50fps with no dlss or upscaling at high to ultra settings at 1440p. with dlss on quality, and framegen to automatic, i just about manage to get to the 100-120 i want (because i'm used to 120fps, and i guess my flavor of autism makes me extra sensitive to it, because even skyrim at a perfect 60fps (without display tweaks mod, which allows me to run it at 120) feels stuttery to me, even tho i know it should not. Crazy how perspective changes as you are getting used to better things...

I LOVE this remaster, but it urgently needs performance improvement.
What is a 3800X3D?

Excellent. Bazzite and Proton 9.0.5 are on my radar. New specs are all AMD (possible issue, for now) 7700x and RX 7800XT.

*fingers crossed

it's a version of the ryzen 7 3800X cpu, that uses that newer x3D cache (i think? someone correct me if i'm wrong) system

You should have no issue what so ever with Linux using that hardware under the latest kernels. AMD hardware simply functions as intended right out of the box. Be prepared to have your desktop fully running at first boot. This isn't Windows. No Adrenalin on Linux, though. You will have to give up some of those features.

There is no such thing. The only AM4 CPUs with 3D V-cache are the 5500x3d, 5600x3d, 5700x3d, and 5800x3d.

Less features are a priority for me. This is a dedicated rig for games only and I was afraid I was going to be stuck with this damn W11 mess.

It's going to feel very good to give the digital middle finger to MS.

EDIT: Less features, generally speaking across the board

And apologies to the OP for derailing

huh, i could have sworn there was one for the 3800X aswell... so thanks for correcting my unintended misinformation!!

Adrenalin gives you stuff like AFMF2 and Virtual Super Resolution, both of which are actually pretty cool. But I migrated over from Win 10 because I'm just fed up with Microsoft forcing installs down my throat no matter how many times I disable them, even in my registry. I need a improperly pushed out forced update that can potentially wreck something like I need toothpicks shoved into my nail beds. Microsoft can go sit and spin. Linux gives you back your computer, Windows just takes it away.
