This is not a bug.
This is how it worked in the original game.
I suspect what happens, is that the first version of the house is 1 "cell" and then the fixed version of the house is another "cell".
I don't know if console commands are available but you could try looking it up on wiki what "cell" you can teleport yourself to get your stuff, it's probably still there.
EDIT: using the console for any reason disables achievements unless you have the mod to prevent that.
I put items into storage container for safe keeping.
later the storage container deletes all items, sounds like a bug.
even if it was an over site in how they scripted this event it is still a bug.
The pre-cleansed house is NOT considered a player house, therefore the containers in there do not have protected status.
Again, not a bug.
Once you cleanse the house, the containers inside THAT version of the house have protected status.
Protected Containers = stuff in them never changes
Unprotected Containers = regenerate their contents (while deleting anything in them previously) over time.
This is how the Original and Skyrim both have always worked in regards to containers.
It's just this house is special because there's 2 versions of the house, one before and one after cleansing it.
Let this be a learning lesson to you to not dump crap in unprotected containers. Thankfully, I'm fairly sure this is the only house like it, but if there are in the future any other houses/bases/etc that you need to finish a quest before they are fully yours, don't store stuff there until the whole thing is done.
What are you on about?
All containers in the game will hold (theoretically) an infinite number of items.
All containers in the game, except those with protected status, will have their contents deleted and refreshed with the loot tables that normally spawn in that container.
Containers with protected status are usually found in player homes and in guild leader halls that are accessible once you become the guild's leader and perhaps a few other limited places.
Suffice it to say if you wanna store it safely, put it in a player-bought house.
Or use the Anvil house but only after completing its quest.
Now it WOULD be nice if the game would tell you which chests are protected and which aren't, would be easy to use a UI element for that.
are you sure, because thats the point of this thread, all my items got deleted when i put them in my house i bought.
I think the fact you walk into the house and it looks like trash should have been a clue that something wasn't right with the house.
And how the NPC was so eager to get rid of the house, and you walk in and its all dark, no furniture, only a few containers, no food, stuff laying around in disarray.
I think the developers intended for the player to go up to the bed and sleep before doing anything else in the house which would have made it REALLY obvious that the house is tied to a quest that needs to be completed before it becomes a functional house.
Were I the developer, I would have simply made it so that there are no functional containers in the first version of the house. Make all the cupboards and chests broken so that they don't actually function as containers.
By your logic, any house we get in the game isn’t safe for storing our items.
I’m new to Oblivion but not to Skyrim, and you’re basically telling new players that buying or earning a house isn’t safe for item storage.
If I go and get another house in the game, how do I know that the same thing won’t happen there too? If no player house is safe by design, then what’s even the point of having a house?
how are you supposed to know that?
google helps, every safe storage can be found on there.
here's a tip: assume everything is non safe until you find out otherwise.
You didn't have to post that all again, lol.
As to the other houses? It's the only one like it. The other player houses are safe.
