Stealth is not working as intended
Ayo, am i the only where the stealth is not working like the original?
As soon as i sneak attack someone while i'm in total darkness the enemy is completely aware of me and even if i move quickly somewhere else where the enemy has no vision of me, the eye from the stealth remains totally open with no sign of changing not even when the enemy has no sight of me after 5 minutes... they still can see me and chase me exactly where i'm standing.
How did they manage to break something from the original game that was already beautifully broken? :(

Edit: more details: equipped with Light armor, Sneak level is above 50, difficulty on Adept (medium) and it happens specifically when you can't one shot the enemy.

It depends on how good your stealth is to begin with - so you'll have to sneak around the city for no reason, in order to level your sneaking ability. But in relation to your question, are you wearing any heavy gear by chance?

Stealth is dependent on on your sneak skill rating and not whether it's dark or not.

Interesting, I am not having this issue at all. I built a stealth character and am able to clear an entire dungeon without being discovered, even if there are NPCs in the next room over. Playing on medium (adept I believe it is called) in case that matters. Also, ducking into nooks and crannies and remaining still usually goes back to stealth for me (eye closed instead of wide open).

My Sneak level is above 50, the difficulty is set on Adept (medium) but once i hit the enemy then it always knows where i am

i thought that was affecting it somehow :/ but yea as i said before, my sneak level is above 50, it must do something right?

if it's like you said then i probably mixed it up with how i played skyrim, but man it really feels bugged the stealth...

Yeah that's weird man. I literally JUST now killed an NPC while another was standing right next to him and the other did not notice me so I stealth killed him as well. I am not even level 50 yet in sneaking. It is strange that your results are so wildly different from mine.

Wait, if i one shot them then i have no problem even if someone is standing next to them, the problem is if they don't die at the first hit then everything goes to ♥♥♥♥ permanently.
I'm having the same as you, I was thinking I just mis-remembered how stealth worked in Oblivion but there's something very wrong.

Like you, I can 'snipe' someone across a long room and they instantly "full-eye" and charge me, that's with 75+ Sneaking. Same as you, stuck in 'combat' unless I run away for 5 minutes. Even if I pop invisibility (blink) and map transition etc, they still continue to track me.

That alongside my bows getting "Sneak Damage x1" or not applying at all - then sometimes x3 is making my build a little bit janky to play right now but I'm working through it xD.

Oh so i'm not the only one :')
I found guards lock on forever. Until you leave the city area anyway. General monsters and other NPC I can bow snipe multiple times and they will run about....i know he is here somewhere... mixed results on stealth. I cheesed the entire arena with stealth. None of them could find me.

No heavy armor involved, do you think i'm an idiot? lol
Let me do another edit specifying this as well.

I am not being sarcastic, just to get that out of the way first. What is the expected behavior after the first hit? That they don't notice you? It seems normal to me that after being injured they'd up their game and notice there is an intruder. But then I haven't played the game in over 15 years so perhaps I just don't recall what is supposed to happen.

From what i remember in the original game after the enemy gets hit it goes in "alert" mode and they come inspect the place where you shot, but without having the player seen, so if you move after the first hit and you're still in "sneak" mode, you can manage to evade the enemy.
In this case instead as soon as the arrow lands on the enemy, the enemy exactly knows where you are and even if you move away, behind a wall or whatever the enemy can still see you and it will chase you forever...
I have the same experience as you. Weirdly enough if 2 npcs are together, and i stealth hit one of them with an arrow, he charges at me, but if i stay crouched, the other one does not aggro, for him i'm in stealth apparently lol. It's a weird mechanic that's for sure.

I just noticed that my stealth does not seem to work anymore. Used to be able to literally hide under mobs noses. Sneak 48 light armor, Khajiit ring. And now all of a sudden the minute something faces me it's auto detection. Been noticing an increasing amount of bugs the more I play... stealth seems to be completely non-working now and nothing seems to fix it.
