So it's a simplified Skyrim ?
I never played Oblivion back in the day, I did play Morrowind and then Skyrim and so I bought this one. It's nice but I really feel I am playing a simplified light version of Skyrim. The same but smaller, less content, less variety, less things to see etc... Do other people feel like that ?

Pretty much yes.

Oblivion straddles the middle ground between morrowind and Skyrim. Whatever oblivion does better than Skyrim, morrowind does better than oblivion, and whatever it does better than morrowind, Skyrim does better.

It's the jack of trades of elder scrolls, it excels at nothing and the games before and after doing everything else better. The end result is the most generic and milk toast elder scrolls, and the worst level scaling in RPG history because they tried to balance it like a MMO game.

Actually to be technical Skyrim is refined Oblivion, since it came out later. Also, ttechnically Oblivion is actually more complicated then the dumbed down Skyrim. When they built Skyrim they lessened the number of spells, did away with spell crafting, made crafting a bit easier, made leveling based more on kills and crafting and less on skills so you don't have to micromanage your skills as much. So no, Skyrim is actually a simplified Oblivion.

More like Skyrim is a simplfied Oblivion. Oblivion is more like a simplified version of Morrowind.

Skyrim has the benefit of coming out during the golden age of rampant memes

All of that is incorrect, besides number of spells and spell crafting.
Morrowind is an RPG, Skyrim is an action game. Oblivion is somewhere in the middle.
More spells, more schools of magic, the ability to make your own spells and enchantments. Actual flushed out guild quest. A complex crafting system that is more in depth than simply "push E to make poison".

Seriously, you just have to "push button" for the Nine Divines to get their blessing in Skyrim, right?

Why are so many Skyrim fangurls so butthurt on these forums. I'm basking in the glory of finally having an actual RPG again.

I literally just had to sprint and grab the sigil stone for a gate. I mean seriously, there was no way to cheese that frost atronach. THAT is called depth on character build. I can't take on this frost monster, but I can sure outmaneuver him.

This is probably the best explanation I've heard of the Todd-era games. I love Morrowind but a lot of its more zealous fans forget to admit that stealth in that game was ass. It had the opposite problem of Skyrim where mages made the best thieves due to being able to abuse Telekinesis and Chameleon whereas in Skyrim there was literally no problem on the planet that a stealth archer couldn't solve. Oblivion was a good middle ground that made the Nightblade playstyle fun. Also I've always just really liked the unlocking spells and spellcrafting.
It sort of depends on what you want out of a game like this. I feel like Oblivion has a lot more to offer than Skyrim. A lot to explore, many quests, bigger cities. You can spend time crafting your poisons and your spells, wouldn't mind if there was smithing as well. You can spend time breaking into houses, and I find it rather interesting that every NPC has their own little bed and schedule.

I kind of wish they would do a remake of Daggerfall in the Oblivion engine, but that wouldn't be much like Skyrim either. Just an entirely different quality to offer, the expansiveness of a fantasy world.

Is it really polished? Well, it is very apparent that Bethesda was experimenting with their radiant AI. It's pretty hilarious, and sometimes also surprisingly impressive. Combat is passable at best. But if you want to be an adventurer and explore, loot and sell - this is the game for sure.

I do like Skyrim, but I'm kind of over it. I am glad to get back into Oblivion again.

Oblivion sits in a sweetspot for me because it feels the most like an Immersive Sim. And that's why I like it the best of all the Elder Scrolls games so far.

I prefer some aspects of the gameplay in Skyrim. Combat is just better objectively in Skyrim. But I only prefer it in the same kind of way I like driving an automatic more than I do a manual transmission car.

Nope, it’s the opposite. Skyrim is the simplified Oblivion.

One can hope they steal/try to emulate the melee combat from Kingdom Come or For Honor and bring back Spellcrafting for VI. Stealth can largely remain the same though, I had few complaints about it in Skyrim besides it being too easy, enemies should probably have calm and alert states that don't rely strictly on whether or not they detect the player that affect their perception.

Skyrim is pretty shallow and streamlined compared to this. Combat is better though, just.
