Why does armour break so fast?
I had just gotten a set of imperial armour at around 80% just for it to break halfway through fighting someone. Does this get better late game? I noticed repair hammers only heal a small amount of item hp so, what gives?

Edit: Thank you everyone for the feedback <'o'>

Repair hammers should repair any non-magical item to its full health/armour regardless of skill. Provided you have enough of them if you are not very skilled.

Because Bethesda watered everything down from morrowind and tried too hard to over balance the game and world which resulted in the abomination oblivion is in the RPG genre.
you get levels in the armor type you're wearing as you progress, each level will lower the wear on the armor in combat. However, you're right, I find it frustratingly annoying how fast it breaks early game, there's a mod that just removes durability, I'm considering it.

Did you wake from the wrong side of bed?

OP, just visit balcksmith and get some armor. Your armor degarde on base skill of said armor(light/heavy)

Yes, more skill levels make the armor last longer, but because of level scaling, enemies hit harder every level so eventually you're back to stuff breaking after every fight.

My heavy armour hasn't broke once and I'm always in a fight. *shrug*

PSA: there are mods to reduce or remove that break mechanic

So you have fun using Repair hammer and level up Armorer.
Higher armor skill reduces wear
Better armor has more hp
armorer hammers fix armor, and higher skill gets more use of them

so yeah, early on it will be frustrating

Working on my skill to become better at my skill? What is this? I have always believe RPG were 55/55 skill on and boom 100% succes rate.

Just carry repair hammers on you. Once your armorer skill is high enough it is barely an issue.

Higher luck makes your repair hammers break less, which helps. At armorer 50 and with 60 luck your hammers last much longer. 75 armorer let's you repair to 125. 100 armorer makes one hammer last forever.

It will get better, but first it's going to cost you allot of repair hammers. Fix after every single fight to get it to 50 asap.

And yet, you own the game...

Iron is actually just a fancy word for clay in Cyrodiil.
I play as a thief and I just steal and flee from fights. So I don't see the problem here.
