I kinda love how confused new generations are about Oblivion
First of all: Thanks to Bethesda for remastering this gem and not destroying it with too many new features. I feeling the same enjoyment as in 2006 when I first played the game.

After reading some threads I noticed that there is a lot of whining about how the game plays. Are people really that dumb and can't figure out this game.
I started with Morrowind in 2003 when I was 14 years old and figured the game out. It was hard but I enjoyed it very much. Oblivion was a walk in the park in comparison.
It has some idiosyncrasies for sure but nothing that isn't masterable after a while if you just think a little. I kinda hate games that just take you by the hand and guide you through. I loved Red Dead Redemption 2 for its great story but tbh it was not really a challenge.
I also read a lot of ragebait. This seems to be a thing now. Don't fall for it

Lots of dying to crabs , I remember it well.
"there are rats and goblins and no one tells me what to do and lockpicking is ♥♥♥♥ and omgbebebebebe"
Those crabs stick to you right across the map..

i am really enjoying the feel of being dumped in a world and told -'figure it out for yourself'.
I don’t see that much confusion here. Most of the topics complaining about the game’s design don’t misunderstand it, they just don’t like something about it.
100% Chameleon and u can do whatever u want :D It´s great, i feel like im back in my younger self and trolling the enemies, hotkey one piece of eq and if they see me i put the thingy on and the npc "where is he, he was right there" and then u hit him and he says "it was the wind" or "i shouldn´t drink so much" :D Its so hilarious and i love it

New generations are confused about everything. It's just part of being new. Eventually they'll figure it out, although voting for Trump may have been a terminal mistake.

I think it was a good idea, America needed the reset.

Skeleton key is one of the most useless items in this game. You can get the same results just using a unlock spell. You could go the entire game without ever using a single lockpick or putting any points into security.
Oblivion Remaster is a 20 year old game cleverly disguised as something brand new. Disarming and misleading, especially if you were raised on the generation of games that shower you in praise, toss you easy victories and hold your hand and show you everything like a toddler at the carnival. They'll either get it, and relish the feeling of accomplishment when they break the hurdle and figure things out on their own, or get frustrated and give up.

Many of us did the same thing as kids; I know I did. I made a goofy custom class, snuck into an old fort, and got my butt skinned and dried by the bandits inside. I didn't touch Oblivion again for several years. But when I returned to it, wizened by years of experience (and growing old enough for my frontal lobe to finish developing, that happens in your 20s), and it was mind-blowing. You gotta give these kids a chance to experience it too.

The gameplay style is vastly different from the constant action ADD stuff games are known fro now. Oblivs is more focused on the actual journey and storytelling first, rather that making it second to the action, so it comes across as old fashioned in a lot of ways. Plus it's 20 years old and the target demographics are ENTIRELY different,
I kinda love how people are pretending that oblivion isn't watered down slop for the masses that dumbed everything down because the predecessor was too complex for them.

modern games hold your hand and tell you what to do therefore modern gamers are used to not having to think too much, the days of having to figure out how to advance by trial and error are gone. i cant imagine how modern gamers would do on old school RPGs where you had to actually create your own maps

I think it was a good idea, America needed the reset.
Reset right into the dark ages with unmitigated deregulation of everything from medicine, food and healthcare. Reset by destroying the economy with unequal tariffs across the board in the naive belief that Americans will somehow competitively be able to manufacture screws when someone in a third world country gets paid pennies to do so? That kind of reset?
