Finishing main quest or not?
Just wondering do people prefer to do, wrap the main up as soon as possible, or just keep it as a last thing to do?
I usually dont focus on it as i try and benefit from all the oblivion portals that spawn and get the loot contained in the realms

I only play the main quest so far that oblivion gates spawn because in this version they seem buggy and I got also oblivion gates without pushing the main quest but couldn’t entre them. I got a little annoyed to restart the game so that they vanish.

In the classic version I always ignored the main quest after I left the sewers and finished the main quest only if my character was ready to retire.

If I remember correctly, all the gates will close once you beat the story? I know there were mods that allowed you to open and close gates at will, allowing gates to open after story and after closing them the first time. Either way, I've never completed an Elder Scrolls main storyline. Just did literally everything else in Oblivion and Skyrim, only doing story up until I got the main unlocks. Then after everything else is done, I'm burnt out and move to a new game. Maybe eventually make a new character from scratch that's "evil".

oblivion realms asides from a very small handful, contain only mundane items. the main quest is up to you, finishing it at a early or later time doesn't affect side quests or factions. completing it will change your disposition with all npc's though.

personally i like to run through the shivering isles first, the arena, kotn pilgrimage, mages guild, dark brotherhood, thieves guild, Umbacanno, Skingrad locals, Benirus manor, then the fighters guild.

I dont know, at lvl 10+ i've found decently enchanted items, aswell as sigil stones with decent effects, so far i dont want to finish the main quest to close the gates perma

If it’s the same as the original then you have only 60 Oblivion gates per game which you can close.

sigil stones are a given, but the items again are mundane. that isn't saying you can't find decent loot. but your time can be better spent elsewhere getting artifacts

edit: it's also wise to leave most gates until level 25 as that is when the sigil stones give their best potential versions. really good stuff for enchanting armor
