Enchanting beyond 85???

Trying to enchant some weapons and 85 is holding me back.

the slider goes up to 999, but that little lightning bolt won't go up. I'm using a grand soul in a Black Gem.

Same thing for me, I've tried a bunch of different things to see if I'm missing something but I can't figure it out.

The only possible thing I can think of that might cap it is something in the main story, I've only just closed the first gate (I'm level 25 I just went around doing everything else besides the MSQ)

nah thats just how enchanting works in oblivion. youve got a set amount of "soul energy" you can use from the gem, and you can only use one gem. black soul gems filled with human souls give the same energy as a grand soul gem with a grand soul. youre stuck with 85 as your max. its a balancing thing so you cant make a single ring that makes you a god (gotta get 5 pieces with chameleon for that lmao). yeah its kinda weird, but thats oblivion.
