Katana related build
I am not quite able to play now. I hear that strength and agility are now both put to blades. longer and heavier are improved by strength, shorter and lighter ones are improved by agility. I know there is also skills and classes having to do with blades. It has been maybe a decade or more since I played the original and some things are new in this one. Which one of these strength & agility adds to katana, and skills related to katana straight forward to which benifit it. Is the skill just blades or is one short blade and one long. or one heavy and one light? If there is 2 kinds which is katana. What I want to know the most is does strength or agility give the bonuses to katana damage.

That belongs to the blades faction and the blade that talked to you at the end of it took it back. Too op for a starter pc anyhow.

If I recall right from the original it should not be too hard to get more katanas later that are as good or better.
That blade praetorian didn't want a prisoner, not even one the emperor confided in, to have a fallen blade's katana.

It may of said item removed somewhere on the screen while the guy last talked to you.

Maybe dropping it before then will keep it there to pick up. Or it will disappear from there too. Likely it will. Maybe place it in a body.
I may be able to play soon. If I do I will answer my own question here for helping people on this question in the future. Even if the game doesn't make all my katana inquiries easily forthcoming, I will test until I have the answers.

There actually is a way to get Katana from the tutorial. Baurus's Akaviri Katana is superior to the standard Akaviri Katana and it's what I use now. There is a trick to get it. When you go to the small room with emperor and assassins start attacking then you need go someplace high above ground where assassins can't hurt you. Let the immortal Baurus fight them until his Katana breaks. You will know it when he stops fightning. Finally you can normally progress the game with class creation and pickpocket the unequipped Katana from him, it might still require few tries.

Also normally the Akaviri Katana is available as soon as you want if you don't mind pickpocket a little. Go to the monk place and pickpocket Akaviri Katana when they sleep.

Iirc? Forgive me if I remember wrong but it was something I did in the original game.

Seems that you guys dont understand what was question. He asked if Katanas are affected by Agility or Strenght. Game itself and guides on internet are ignoring answer to thi q.

99.9% sure (can't look at the code myself) that it's only Strength affecting Katana because it's a Longsword. Agility affects only daggers or shortswords exactly like the attributes tells about when you see it in-game.

Katana are long blade or claymore weapons, which are affected by Strength

Short blades and daggers are affected by Agility. There are no katana-like short blades or daggers in Oblivion

The strongest katana in the game is Goldbrand, so that's ultimately what you want to plan for

There is only unique version, right? 22 Fire Dmg it has. Not bad but can be achieved better with custom enchants on other Katanas.

You lose this before you choose your skills if I recall.

That makes sense in a technical way. But they still didn't list it with either list. I figured it could be considered a long sword. But also that it is also considered in real life not a long sword and more agility like. The devs may of chose katana as an exception to not longer. Understand why I thought it may be one?

I forgot about goldbrand. It has been many years since I played the original. Thanks. Too band there are no dia-katanas in this one. Only ones that you can use a shield with and use one hand on.

Only "normally" obtained Katana particularly Renault's Akaviri Katana will be taken back from Baurus. But if Baurus's Katana is at 0% condition he can't use it and therefore unequipped for you to pickpocket after the class creation.

Same trick with some NPC if they are sleeping and naturally won't have their weapon equipped. Like the one monk in Weynon Priory if you want common Akaviri Katana.

That happens a lot. People skim through the general idea of a post and post things that no more answer your question than where you looked online for it. In this case though the first person that posted started a tangent. People have also been replying to that.

My question on my current character does not matter anymore anyways as he has both Str & Agi up to 100 without gear. But for future reference it sounds like the sleak, thin, and dexterous skill involved katana is effected by brute strength rather than agility with the daggers, or the short swords (that should really weigh around as much as a one handed katana). Apparently length is the only thing that matters.

Not 100% sure, but since long swords are governed by strength, and the katanas are considered long swords, they're also probably governed by strength.
