Got comepletely robbed of my money.
So I have never played an Elder Scrolls game in my life and I was very excited to play Oblivion when I saw it on the front page of steam so I bought the game after watching some videos and looking at the reviews but I didn't think that when I downloaded it and open it up for the first time that I would experience the worst gaming experience imaginable.

For context I don't have the most powerful PC in the world but I can run other games with arguably better visuals like cyberpunk at a minimum of 60 FPS with a medium to high preset. Hell even Stalker 2 with some work will run at 60 FPS for me.

But just like every other ue5 game that's come out after I got out of the tutorial area and was fully free to explore the world I couldn't get over 20 FPS. I downloaded the ultimate engine tweaks mod from Nexus mods to hope that would fix the problem it didn't I even went into Windows graphics settings and added the executable and set it to only use my Nvidia GPU didn't make a difference.
And even running on the lowest graphic settings with dlss didn't make a difference. The listed requirements on Steam are a bold-faced lie. I am not the only one experiencing this problem there are people that have posted on here that have 4090s and 3080s and more powerful hardware than me that are having the same poor performance on a remake of a 19-year-old game.

Unfortunately I purchased the game through CD keys which honestly only saved me $10 on the deluxe anyway but I redeemed it downloaded it on Steam and thus the nightmare began. Upon contacting CD keys they will not give me a refund because it was redeemed which is scummy and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Bethesda apparently won't give me a refund either because it was through CD keys and Steam can't give me a refund because it was through CD keys. So now I'm stuck with an unoptimized and unplayable piece of s***.

I used my hard-earned money to hopefully play a phenomenal RPG when I guess I should have known better from Bethesda especially considering again it is a ue5 game. I should have just bought Skyrim and played that for the first time instead.

Now I have no idea what to do this is wrong. it doesn't take much looking to see other people who are experiencing the same performance on this game and who are mad about it. 20 FPS is no excuse for a game like this yeah I might not have the best hardware but again I can run other newer games just fine and even better than what I'm getting in this
game

and yes my drivers are up to date I'm not new to PC gaming and yes I've done all the other things to make a game run better and it makes no difference. sorry if I pissed at anyone's Cheerios this is just the situation that I guess I seem to be in trying to play a game that I wanted to enjoy and realized I can't even do that because it doesn't run it walks very slowly and skips.

CPU: Core i-7 11800H
RAM- 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3400 mhrz
GPU- RTX 3060
SSD- Samsung EVO 970 Plus 2TB

Wall of text bad Mmmmkay?

TL/DR version of the wall of text:

OP buys STEAM key from discount vendor.

OP system is a mess and a can't run the game.

OP can't get a refund cause they bought their STEAM key from discount vendor.

OP demanded refund from STEAM and Bethesda: who laughed at OP and told them to go to the Vendor they bought the key from.... Vendor gave them the middle finder.

Morale of the wall of text???

Being cheap bites you in the ass.

You should have gotten Grammarly to help you write this. Paragraphs are a thing, and run on sentences can make your eyes bleed.

Why would steam refund a game bought from a grey market unauthorized reseller?

Assuming these are the OPs thoughts, thank you for the translation.

The enter key is your friend.

Funny that the user is now somehow being blamed for the horrible optimization and not the game studio. This is giving me "leave the multibillion dollar company alone"-vibes.

No. Just for not reading up on their refund rights (or lack thereof), when making steam key purchases outside of Steam.

Thanks, I was wondering what was in the wall of text, and had resigned myself to never knowing when I saw your post.

@OP - well you're not getting a refund, so now you have a good reason to get your system sorted out. May be the challenge you need, if not the challenge you want.

Let us know if you help - but be sure to break your posts into paragraphs as some users have a bug where very large blocks of text cannot be read.

In case it helps anyone:

The fact that right this second there is over 175,000 players in the game means that the game works, and that the issues are most likely the User's Rig alone.

The OP never listed their rig specs so we have no idea what is actually in his Rig, and how its configured...

But YEARS of bug fixing other STEAM forums users systems for other games tells me that 80% of the time the source the problem is located between the chair and the keyboard.

15% of the time, the Computer is not up to spec....

4% of the time the problem is conflicting software unrelated tot he game.

and only 1% of the time is it the ACTUAL game that is the issue.

Willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that the Op issue falls int the 80% category:

The fact they are buying CD keys from a discount vendor -then winging that STEAM and Bethesda won't refund them- tells me that the OP probably has a host of software and driver issues, and possibly hardware issues...

1. Lets not make insane walls of text.

2. In the words of Red Forman: "Son, you don't have bad luck. The reason bad things happen to you, is because you're a dumbass"

Uhm, no ... this just means that 175k people are playing the game right now, nothing more nothing less. Your anecdotal evidence isn't worth anything here.

Even Digital Foundry, who are praising almost every UE5 game that releases, are admitting that there are massive performance and optimization problems.

So, should I rather trust you, someone that provides nothing but anecdotal evidence, or a deep dive analysis video that provides visual evidence of the poor optimization?

funny because I did post specs and my rig is most certainty not to blame for Bethesda's incompetence and i have read a ton of post and comments on YouTube, Steam, and Reddit of people have issues after I played it. Digital Foundry even put out a video showing it's poor performance. It's insane people suck companies off so hard and have no standards.

Thank you for reading that gargantuan wall of text, so that I didn't have to! A very accurate precis you did, too.

OP, you didn't piss in anyone's Cheerios because none of your wall of text is relevant to anyone else. Just you. As for the game which you say walks very slowly and skips, that would just be the abysmal rig you have. My game runs smooth as silk, thanks very much.

Also, you didn't get "robbed of your money" - YOU bought a 3rd party key to save $10, so don't blame Steam, Bethesda or the game itself for your bad choices and self-inflicted problems.

if you arent gonna understand whether or not your pc can run a game maybe dont buy games blindly like it can. should have looked more into whether your pc could actually run the game first than watching reviews about it.
