Only your damage, claymores in original Oblivion were already inferior to 1-handed weapons so naturally the devs here...nerfed them even more...sigh.
What do you mean faster/better? The sword reacts and swings slowly because it is a heavy 2H weapon. This isn't some Korean MMO.

Two handed weapons were fast in original Oblivion. Slower than 1 handed sure, but fast. Also wielding claymores and big weapons is fast in real life as well.

The main point of using a claymore is reach (besides the damage). Nothing gives you the reach of a claymore in melee in Oblivion.

leveling up your speed increases your swing speed

I think this is true for Daggerfall but not for Oblivion.
Edit: I mean the thing about speed.

The sword speed is either bugged or horribly unbalanced. It swings as slow as the highest damaging class which is the maul while being the lowest damaging two hander and offering no benefit for it. That makes zero logical sense gameplay wise as to why they would just decide an entire class of weapon would have no reason to be used.

And you’re just wrong both in game and irl. Claymores in OG Oblivion were quick and nimble. And swords of that size IRL are nowhere NEAR that slow or heavy. Honestly OG oblivion has one of the most accurate depictions of claymores I’ve seen in gaming. So there is no justifiable reason to make them that sluggish. It’s not Berserks Dragonslayer it’s a normal ass two handed sword of normal ass size.

No. Also, all the good Daedric Artifacts are 1handed, do not bother. The dawn/dusk blade, for example is 1 handed that just puts pretty much every other weapon in the trashcan.

One handed swords are much better than 2 handed weapons
A blocked attack makes the enemy flinch for 2 swings of a longsword and you can then block their next attack almost right after for 2 more swings

A 2 handed weapon only gets one hit in during the flinch, but the damage is not high enough to compensate for the speed loss at all.

And then the next thing is that two-handed weapons weigh and absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, personally I just skip using them even if it was for flavor since your carrying capacity is completely screwed by them even with dumping STR

There is a mod I saw on nexus mods that makes them better. I would recommend checking it out as 2h swords need a buff imo.

I usually use (in OG Oblivion) claymores for their reach, and then (as a secondary reason) for damage (per swing). I think it boils down to personal choice and preferences whether to use claymores or not. In OG, they had their uses. If this weapon was too slow in real life, there would be no point for it to exist in the first place.

Besides, their weight meant that they drained a lot of Fatigue per swing, and obviously low Fatigue reduced melee damage output significantly.

Damage increases with Strength attribute and Blade skill, so they get better, although you don't swing them any faster.

No its crap better stick to 1 handed weapon. Since having shield is just better also.
