How do I get more magicka?
I just hit level 15 an learned the attribute cap is 100. so I have 100 intellect, a cap of 200 magicka. Some of the spells in the shop cost 500+ to even cast.

What am I missing here because its impossible to get that much magicka it seems.

Raising skills lowers Magicka cost of the spells. Higher destruction lower the magicka cost of destruction spells, etc. Also you should take a Breton or High Elf race as they have increased Magicka. You also should take Apprentice or the Mage birthsign at the start to increase max magicka. Getting to level 17 and closing Oblivion gates can get you a Sigil Stones with Magicka+50 enchant. If you want to cast big spells...dedicate your race, birthsign and build to it.

Each level in a particular school should reduce the cost of spells in that school. Then there are all the things you can do to modify your magicka, potions and enchanted gear etc

There are also mods that can help without being too gamebreaking if youd like to take that route.

Well, you can still cast quite large spells. You just need to enchant you clothes with lots of sigil stones. Or just start over if you want to play fully as a mage.

I chose Agent so I could be a thief that uses the illusion spells. I didn't realize how much commitment you need to make to just cast the big boy spells. I guess I'll end up looking into how to enchant my gear when I hit level 17+ you said?

Also, high Illusion makes your illusion spells cost A LOT less. Also, you can make your own spells at the Arcane University or in the Wizard's Tower. You really only need night eye, paralyze and invisibility spells as an agent or stealth character. With high enough Illusion these spells only cost a few dozen Magicka.

I usually take Atronach sign. Basically just walk into mages crossfire, chuckle then turn their magicka against them, nuking them then just shrug it off and move on. Pain in the ass to keep charged at start, But yeah, feed me your magicka, fools.
