They should change this because it would factor into which type of armor users choose to wear if they knew.
It's not. Using alteration spells like Shield is the better way to go, especially once it's been spell crafted. Doesn't effect your spell casting, can be just as strong as good armor, doesn't effect your weight so you don't need strength, and can be spell crafted with other spells to be OP.
Edit: If you're using mostly magic, don't forget conjuration. Conjure yourself up a pet, and let them get wacked on while you destruct them down. Next battle, rinse and repeat.
That makes sense because I have 50 in light armor, shrouded armor, I have outrider shield that gives 8% shield, Base ring of Aegis that gives 12% shield, and defend (spell) that gives 15% shield.
Fought a skeleton called Dark Guardian, blocked most of the attacks, got hit without blocking maybe 4-5 times. FIght ended, hood almost destroyed, chest at 0, shield at 28.
If you have the deluxe edition, you can get multiple sets of free armor that scales with you. I'm hearing the demon set can be re-obtained mid dungeon. Might save you from needing to repair all the time if you're struggling and have Deluxe. If not, have fun with those hammers. You want to repair after every fight. Get Armorer to 100 as soon as you can.
