Beware "ShowRaceMenu" resests you stats and skills!
As the title says, I just found out the hard way that if you use the "ShowRaceMenu" to change your character appearance (even just your hair) it completely scrambles your character by re-setting your core statistics (strength, intelligence, willpower, etc) and skills (blade, blunt, alchemy, etc) seemly to original stats (or some variant that I can't figure out). So, unless you are level 1 and are ok losing just the initial experience you received in the starting dungeon, do NOT use ShowRaceMenu command to alter your appearance or you will lose level progress that you can never get back.

There is no other way to edit your character appearance or hair (except perhaps via mods).

So, get your character appearance right and be happy with it at the very start OR modify it right when you leave the initial dungeon. Once you have gone outside, you are done and that is the way you will look forever.

Doesnt it only result in reset stats if you change your race?

No Axeface. I had a level 14 Dark Elf. I changed my hair and did a bit of facial sculpting and did nothing else and all of my stats and skills were re-set (seemingly randomly... not necessarily back to original). I did not alter my class or anything else. Just hair and face. Be very careful

As I remember in the original game, you had to hit console command and make a save as in
EXAMPLE
save mygameChange.

after you make the changes to your character, Save while in console.

Remember don't press done.

Are Your skills and advancement will all be reset to zero.

I have not tested this in Remastered, but I bet it is still that way. Make a save before trying :)
Was about to make this same thread lol - I fell prey to this but had actually tried "fixing it" via a quick-save, more commands, and good ol' pen and paper.

What I got so far :
- showbirthsignmenu
You will need to re-select your birthsign for the effects to re-activate. Found out as I use "The Atronach" and my magic started regenerating after changing my character.

- showclassmenu
Same thing as above - you will need to re-select your skills to make sure they get set right as "Major" and "Minor"

- player.setav <skill>/<attribute> #
This still works as usual - one word for "handtohand". Don't imagine there being a problem with the order you set them all in.

- getgs fskillusemajormult / getgs fskilluseminormult
These check the speed of your major/minor skill leveling. The closer to "0" the less effort needed to rank the skill. By default - "Major" should reflect "0.75" and "Minor" should reflect "1.25".

- setgs fskillusemajormult # / setgs fskilluseminormult #
This is only if you need to fix the above; it also does not take immediate effect and requires a save/load to work.

- set PCVampire to 0 & set vampire.hasdisease to 0
This is exclusively for if you had vampirism. Your effects will all be wiped, but the vampire flag isn't so you can be barred from re-contracting the disease. This just unchecks the flags so you can get it as usual again.

The only thing that I couldn't "fix" or figure out yet (and just said F it and kept playing lol) - is the overall % of your level up being correct when you rank a skill. Pretty sure it takes me like double the amount of skill ups to level - but it's not really bothering me enough to be a problem (already about to be level 15 - if somehow I can't make it to 25, I will just fix that via forcing the level ups or whatever via console).

When I do this on a save that has not been modified: `getgs fskilluseminormult`

I get this:
GameSetting fSkillUseMinorMult >> 0.88
