Should not be Steam Deck Verified. Disappointed.
Well, I'm a bit screwed. I can't get to the character creation after 6 crashes and reloads. I can't get a refund as I bought on CD Keys, because you know, games are expensive. Trying to save a few bucks. I set the game to the lowest possible settings. I couldn't report the error in Unreal Engine 5 that got displayed after the first crash as the controls stopped working. Now for a full price game all I can do is watch the intro movie and wait in hope for some type of update. Consider this a cautionary tale for everyone if nothing else. This should not be Steam Deck verified. Very disappointed.

Dang, sorry to hear that. I've been playing most of it on the Deck because I'm traveling for work, just worked out of the box.

Did you switch your Steam Deck from SteamOS to Windows?

If you're using through Windows, that might be the problem. I'm running on SteamOS, and while there are issues concerning load-ins and the textures aren't 100%, it's stable. Never crashed on me yet, a couple times the load-in from interior to exterior took longer than I expected. Of all the versions to get patched, Valve will likely push Proton updates to better work on the shaders, as they always do when taking up more and more of my SSD space, and hopefully they'll work on a SD version that shaves off the unnecessary 4K graphics since the SD doesn't use 4K much?
I'm not running through windows. I haven't done much to fiddle around with the 512 Oled i'm playing through. Only mods on skyrim. I got into the game until it crashed while in the jail. Lowest settings, looks awful. I'll continue to tweak settings until it locks up or crashes, I can't do much else.
Thanks for replying. Please let me know if anyone has has similar issues or settings that resolve anything until a patch may help.

You can try to get the engine.ini tweak and drop it into your game install on the Deck, that will make the thing way more playable on that hardware if it works.

Yeah, digital foundry had a video on it right away that it should not be verified. I agree. It does "run" but similar to baulders gate being verified, it really shouldn't be. At the point where graphics have to be lowered to the point that its just a hazy mess and runs between 25-30 fps, it should not be verified.
That truly sucks man. Hang in there, I suspect there may be some work done toward making it work on the Deck behind the scenes.

the steam deck is a success valve shouldn't be tarnishing it with a garbage verified system that lies to you
I knew before even buying it that the Steam Deck verification was a steaming pile of bull :repoop: as I NEVER seen a Unreal Engine 5 game run well or at all on the Deck.

I played two hours on my deck, The tutorial is playable but the second you get outside the performance goes into the toliet. By the far thought he worst area I encountered in my 2 hour play session was the Market District of the imperial city. Its like the deck couldn't keep up with the textures. If you got signs in focus but turned away just a few degrees it went back to looking like play-doh. NPC spaz out when they move almost out of view. The lighting flickers, and the framerate is all over the place with constant stutters. Its unplayable.

My ancient 1080ti however runs the game great on medium settings (it defaults to high but I like havine framerates above 30). I'm going to next try it on my laptop which has a 3050ti just to see if even the most budget of graphics cards still performs better than the Steam Deck
So now, in my brief spare time, when not caring for my family, to try and enjoy a brief escape into a game, nothing. It won't load at all. Shame on you Valve. Shame on you Bethesda. Shame on you Todd Howard. Go re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release Skyrim. I'm out.
I also have been having system crashes on the deck from oblivion remastered. A little more frequently than once an hour, always when loading into the open world (not a city or cave or building).

I've had the exact same issue. The game is effectively unplayable as there's always a 90% chance of a hard crash on loading into open world, requiring a full reboot.
