So.... 6 scales but fish have stopped spawning? I've circled this lake 4500 times, and have searched for hours.

LOL, I swam the entire lake 3 times and didn't find one.... I ended up going somewhere else for it. Between this stupid crap and other stuff, I really have no faith in this remake....

Wait until early morning (9 or 10am), use Detect Life. Easy

Time doesn't matter. The fish are there no matter what hour of the day it is.

Just a heads up for people on this quest who are still gathering scales.
When you reach the 12 stop and don't loot anymore scales, otherwise the quest can break and prevent you from ever completing it, as you will be unable to turn it in if over 12 scales.

And if you are having trouble finding more fish, just go do some other quests/exploring and come back later like I did. More fish had spawned around the edges of the lake.

Yeah, ive got sick of looking so moved on, hopefully when I can next be bothered to check in it works out haha/

Not sure if it worked this way in the original (probably), but I followed the green quest marker and literally saw at least 4 quest fish all spawn in mid air and dropped into the lake ahead of me. So, definitely try following the marker and keeping an eye above the surface of the water as you do. This also happened right after sleeping several hours.
