So 95% of the time it's not really needed, but it gets you more dialogue from NPCs and is an option for progressing quests that require high disposition.

I forgot this one, for sure.
I also forgot how to be good at lockpicking, since Skyrim's lockpicking was so easy, even with a low skill. For me, anyway.
I absolutely suck at Oblivion's lockpicking, so far, even with a decent skill level.
I don't remember it being this hard.
Same here. I broke a dozen lockpicks on an average lock. For now I am using spells to open them, but from what I remember there are none for harder locks.
I am not sure I understand when to push the tumbler, so the lockpick breaks often.
