What is the point of the Persuade mini-game?
First time ever playing oblivion and have done the persuade thing a bit with some random NPCs. Not really sure what the point of it is, could someone explain?

Disposition effects how likely NPCs are to share information with you which may be needed to progress certain quests. Disposition is effected by your personality plus other factors and then you can further boost it with speechcraft using the persuade minigame. You can also use illusion magic or bribery to increase disposition.

Also shopkeepers give you better prices with higher disposition.

So 95% of the time it's not really needed, but it gets you more dialogue from NPCs and is an option for progressing quests that require high disposition.

Helps disposition for dialogue options and haggling.

Basically get the disposition of NPCs up for better prices in stores and for getting some NPCs to like you enough to talk to you about something. It is best understood as a roleplaying feature, since there are other ways to get someone's disposition up, too, like spells.

It's how much they like you, certain dialogue with beggars and other specific NPC's become available if they like you enough, if you choose an option for dialogue and it stays highlighted in white after they talk that usually means there's more they're not telling you. It also gives you better prices from traders.

I forgot how many mechanics in this game I forgot. :amadeus_happy:

I forgot this one, for sure.

I also forgot how to be good at lockpicking, since Skyrim's lockpicking was so easy, even with a low skill. For me, anyway.

I absolutely suck at Oblivion's lockpicking, so far, even with a decent skill level.

I don't remember it being this hard.

Make speechcraft a major attribute and it's good for some quick and easy xp farming.
Thanks for the answers.

Same here. I broke a dozen lockpicks on an average lock. For now I am using spells to open them, but from what I remember there are none for harder locks.
I am not sure I understand when to push the tumbler, so the lockpick breaks often.

If it's like the original, it's purpose is to give incentive for you to purchase a new mouse and/or monitor after you loose your ever luven mind.

Why do you all continue to answer after one person already answered? You're all weird

Yeah hopefully marking it as answered will help.

Yeah that mini game was always goofy as hell in the original as well.

Just to add to that if you have extremely high disposition with the guards then they'll cancel your bounties as long as you didn't get caught doing something too ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. Can use the charm illusion spell to max disposition for 1 second to exploit most of those benefits too once you unlock spell crafting.
