Pure Mage/Necromancer?
It's been a long time since I played Oblivion as a kid and I now have a VERY different playstyle from back then, so I wanted to ask, am I able to go pure mage? Am I forced to be a spellsword? And can I go for a Necromancer build? I'd love some suggestions for builds and how to get a nice mage build going, and if I can't go pure mage, then an idea for going towards a WoW typed "Lich King" build, aka full heavy armor, two sword, and necromancy galore.

you can go puremage if you want, oblivion even has its own spell creation system which they did not use for skyrim

you can only summon 1 minion at a time, there are no ways to revive a corpse that i know of so a necromancer probably wont work, but you can go all zeus and shove lighting bolts up peoples ass all day

thanks to the new virtue system you can put raise any attribute you want on level up so you are no longer forced to raise a certain skill to increase certain attributes anymore

If the Staff of Worms still works the same, you can use it to raise dead bodies - and unlike Skyrim you can raise them over and over. You have to do the entire Mage's Guild questline though (you do get other cool necromancer stuff from it tho).

There's also the Staff of Corruption from the daedric quests, it creates a shadow clone of you which is kinda dark and evil-y minion summoning - pretty sure it doesn't count against the limit either.

If you just wanna stack minions Staff of Everscap will give you 4 bodies. They don't do anything, but if the aesthetic you're going for is "ravenous swarm of minions" then it's a fun addition to your playthrough... just keep the TCL command handy because they can block doors (unless that's been fixed too).

Thanks for the detailed response! I was wondering the same thing as OP and this is perfect!

Reanimate is currently broken. The model doesn't stand up, attack or do anything currently
